The Press Needs to Stop!

The press just can't let this damn benching situation go and it's annoying as hell.

#1-The same a-holes that proclaimed the Cowboys the winners of the NFC are the same idiots claiming Shanahan is an incompetent racist that thinks Donovan McNabb is too dumb to run their offense. Not a source worth listening to.

#2-At no time did Shanahan claim that McNabb was not smart enough to run the offense. The term "not smart enough" was used by the sports press and has stuck ever since. The press can infer all they want but to credit someone with a quote that wasn't made isn't just stupidity, it's bad journalism.

#3-John Feinstein has proven that he's a complete idiot by saying that Shanahan should be fired. Feinstein is a golf reporter who doesn't know sh*t about football. This is the same jackass who said that Shanahan was mistreating Haynesworth and that Hayneworth would be ruined as a player for the Redskins. Stick to golf and talking about yourself endlessly. Nether does David Aldridge, who is a basketball reporter and who got all hysterical on ESPN 980 about the racial "overtones" about the benching.

I have never witnessed such hysteria regarding a single Redskin player and as usual, the players are ignoring most of it as they do many storms of opinion and speculation and bull**** that come out of the mouths of journalists during a season.

The locker room has it's own code, it's own leaders and it's own way of dealing with and understanding what's going on on and off the field. They know that if they live and die with every dumb ass thing that is said by the press or ex-players they would never get their job done.

Who knows where this season will end up but the journalists will have it all figured out and will tell you it was this guy's fault or that decision made by the owner or blah blah blah.

The problem inherent in sports reporting is that there is too much air time to cover by just reporting news, there has to be hours and hours and hours or speculation, conjecture, uneducated guessing and discussions of race in sports in order to cover the time alloted.

Shanhan was specifically commissioned by Snyder to change the culture and mindset of this team and he is doing that step by step. Too bad he can't change the culture of sports reporters at same time.

Sorry man, I don't think we can blame the media on this one...it's their job to run with stories...and Shannahan created a story by doing something very odd. He then used some extremely strange phrasing to explain his decision. Agree or disagree with the benching itself is one thing, but I do think it IS a story.

It is indeed a story but the hysteria that has surrounded it is almost bizarre. Andy Reid has been quietly switching back and forth between 2 QB's and no one has been calling his coaching into question. And yes,he will switch back to Kolb if and when Vick loses a game.

Having said that, Shanahan certainly didn't help himself with the press conferences.
