Will Dan wait?

The season is finally here and most of the knowledgeable Skins fans believe that this is a transition or rebuilding year at best. Many believe that we need to give Marty at least a few more years to really get the team in place that he wants and then make a run at a title.

But my question is, will Mr. Snyder sit paitiently by until this thing unfolds. Last season he was adimant that the future was now. Will he be willing to wait two or three years on Marty to rebuild this team. Marty has stated himself that the time is right now. That may add more pressure on him and the coaching staff than is needed. We as fans don't want to go through another rebuilding process, but we may have no choice but to wait.

I don't think this is necessarily a rebuilding year although I do think the Skins will get off to a slow start while the Marty Kool-Aid kicks in but I think this team will gel the second half of the season.

Dan Snyder is a quick study and will give Marty at least two years to start producing results. Had Marty been the coach last year, we'd have made the playoffs and I think Dan realizes that as well. Should Marty pull a Dick Vermeil and win a Super Bowl in his 2nd or 3rd year, I predict he'll retire.

I think Mr. Snyder will be a little more patient with Marty to get things going and give him a couple of years to do the job. After all the bad PR he got last year I think he has grown up as a owner and learned to back off.

Just remember one thing: Snyder inherited Norv, he hired Marty, so that could make a world of difference!

Yes he hired Marty but I still don't think he will wait too long before he will begin to voice his dissapproval. The easiest part of the Skins schedule this year is early on. If they don't start out hot with some of the easier teams (starting out with the Chargers and the Cards) it may be tougher down the stretch.

Nope.

This is not a rebuilding year and I believe Marty realizes this. If it was, Marty would have scrapped everybody--and I mean everybody (George, Westbrook, Wilkinson, maybe even Colemen and Smith; keep only LaVar and Samuels)--to get extra draft picks and to give his young players valuable playing experience. Something tells me that if Marty had his druthers, he would have done it in this way, but he knows Snyder is unwilling to wait. So Marty prunes whatever he can while leaving enough veterans on the team so as to stay competitive.

And remember, every game we drop under .500 will only magnify those comments Marty made about Dan on ESPN. Don't think for a minute that Snyder has forgotten about them.

BTW, I believe that a good barometer of Marty's progress would be Butch Davis and the Browns. He was passed up by Snyder (he wasn't a big enough name) and afterwards inherited a team with far less talent than we have. If, by the end of the season, we have a worse record than the Browns, Marty's gone.<IMG SRC="http://www.ukobservers.net/cwm/otn/sad/sulkoff.gif" border=0>

No owner can expect a new coach to win big unless he's inheriting a dynasty like Seifert and Switzer.

A coach should get a minimum of 3 or 4 years to get his system rolling. If after that period the team is not improved and/or in the hunt for the playoffs then maybe you should re-evaluate your decision.
