Fun & Gun
One of these players are guaranteed when we pick in the 2nd round. All of these could contribute for the DL position. 2nd Round Jerome McDougle, Miami DeWayne White, Louisville Michael Haynes, Penn St Chris Kelsay, Nebraska Cory Redding, Texas Rien Long, Washington St Kenny Peterson, Ohio St Ty Warren, Texas A&M 3rd Round Ken Hamlin, Arkansas Antwoine Sanders, Utah Julian Battle, Tennessee Gerome Sapp, Notre Dame Terrence Holt, North Carolina St Todd Johnson, Florida
SkinsNorth
I agree with you on the safeties, but with the DL, there is agood chance that all of these players could be gone, Long & Warren are the only possible exceptions.
RabidFan
Yeah most of those DL will be gone.....maybe many mocks have Dewayne White lasting past us.....I remember reading that during the senior bowl the skins were talking and interested in Todd Johnson the safety from FLA......is he a SS or FS and any good? could he last past the 3rd in case we trade down and get a 4th or something? Don't know much about his ranking or skill
JangoFett
That's interesting that skins showed interest. Maybe Spurrier and the coaching staff knows that he's a player and what he's getting. Since this guy isn't projected in the first 3 rounds, maybe the skins will trade down and pick him up on day 2...sounds like a pretty good prospect to me and at the very least the FO will know what they are getting... Todd Johnson Safety Florida collected by draftbook.com Status: Senior 6-1/201 40: 4.55 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DJ Boyercollected by draftbook.com 2-10-03 Strength: Tackling Speed Weakness: Man-to-man coverage Shedding blocks Assessment: Good athlete who made the right choice a year ago when he opted not to leave for the draft. Plays the run extremely well from the free safety spot ands can put pressure on the quarterback when asked to do so. Sound tackler that never misses in open space. Perfect size for a free safety at the next level although Johnson needs to add some strength in his upper body so shedding blocks is not a problem in the NFL. Johnson should go by round 4 in April. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matthew Gambillcollected by draftbook.com 1-18-03 Todd Johnson was the most impressive safety as he showed good range, good coverage skills, and reacted well to run/pass. He's a reliable tackler and plaYs very smart. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TFYcollected by draftbook.com 12-31-02 Todd Johnson could move into the first day if he runs well prior to April 8-24-02For our money the steadiest player in the backfield is safety Todd Johnson who stepped to the forefront as a sophomore. A skilled and smart centerfielder constantly in the right place at the right time making plays against either the run or pass, Johnson lacks the great speed but makes nothing but positive plays. We would liken him as a lesser version of Jon McGraw, the former K-State star now with the Jets and expect Johnson to fall into the opening rounds of the draft's second day. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Murphycollected by draftbook.com 10-04-02the Gators have a host of other senior prospects... here they are with their current draft grade: RB Earnest Graham (2-3), DB Todd Johnson (3-4), TE Aaron Walker (4), LB Mike Nattiel (4-5), LB Byron Hardmon (5), DL Troy LaVavor (6-7), LB Marques Oquendo-Johnson (FA)... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joel Buchsbaumcollected by draftbook.com 9-17-02 The secondary must be rebuilt around All-SEC S Todd Johnson, who is a very smart, tough, Johnny-on-the-spot type of player who makes big plays. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Great Blue Northcollected by draftbook.com 8-30-02 the news is better for Florida FS Todd Johnson. Johnson, who was knocked unconscious and lay on the field for up to 25 minutes late last week after he collided with a teammate, has been cleared to play and should be in the lineup when the Gators open their schedule Saturday against Alabama-Birmingham. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rob "Boomer" Rangcollected by draftbook.com 8-20-02 1st team All-SEC choice each of the last two seasons - (12 starts at free safety last year, 4 starts at strong safety, last 8 starts at free safety in 2000). Solid read and react skills. Is a reliable form tackler and understands his role as the last line of defense. Takes proper angles to limit the damage on big plays. Has demonstrated big play ability. Good, not great hands for the INT and isn't a punishing, lights-out hitter. Not a true standout in any one area of play, but has no weakness to his game. Has posted the big numbers you'd expect from a All-SEC performer - 198 career tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 7 fumble recoveries, 10 passes defensed, 7 interceptions, and 2 blocked kicks.... Not quite on par athletically with some of the other prospects listed here, but Johnson's ability to maintain as a 3 year starter in the super athletic SEC cannot be minimized. Should end up being one of the first true free safeties selected.
RabidFan
Great info thanks.....sounds more of a FS and isn't Bowen that? I guess maybe he interested us at the Senior Bowl before we ending up getting Bowen for that role.....So maybe thats why Doss is on all the mock drafts because he's a true SS. But hey, a smart player is a smart player and will be in the right spots and the right time to make plays that change the game.......no need for a "hitter" specialist if he's slower than Ohalete or Sam Shade was. Of course not speaking of Doss being that slow but two smart fast true tackling playmakers at safety would be intersting to have.
