If you plan on having a wallpaper with yourself on it you should probably have the picture of yourself retaken (have someone else take it and forget the mirror) so it has your entire upper half in frame (When you cut something as an important as a head out of a photo it just tends to look wierd.) Than use the pen tool as was discussed in one of your other threads and cut yourself out. For the background you should start with a background filled with the color of your choice, in your case likely burgundy, and than do whatever you want to the background to give it some texture and style that is interesting to look at. From that point you can mess around with the layers of yourself and the background to tweak it a little more and if you still want that "paranormal" type look you can eve add it in as well.
