Keep in mind I got this from the "hall of fame" website.

These are the stats at the beginning of the 2002 season.

LEADING LIFETIME RECIEVERS

--------------------------------------

Years catches yards average Td's Status

--------------------------------------------------------------

1)Jerry Rice 17 1364 20,386 14.9 185 active 2)Cris Carter 15 1093 13,833 12.7 129 active

3)Andre Reed 16 951 13,198 13.9 87 waiting

4)Art Monk 16 940 12,721 13.5 68 ready

5)Tim Brown 14 937 13237 14.1 95 active

6)Irving Fryer 17 851 12,785 15.0 84 waiting

7)Steve Largent 14 819 10,089 16.0 100 HOF

8)Henry Ellard 16 814 13,777 16.9 65 waiting

9)Larry Centers 12 765 6,303 8.2 27 active

10)James Loften 16 764 14,004 18.3 75 HOF

Waiting:not eligable for the hall of fame as of yet

active:self explanatory

HOF:self explanatory

ready:not yet been inducted

As you can see Monk is probably now 5th in catches all time because tim brown moves up.

Monk is 8th in yards all-time

monk is 8th in TD's all-time

Monk is 8th in average all time

....and these of course are compared to the top ten WR's of all time based on receptions that include 4 active players,3 that are not eligable as of yet and 2 including loften that are in the hall of fame. That leaves 1 guy left and that is Art monk that still remains to be decided!!

but you are not factoring in the most important criteria, Art didn't do a dance and celebrate after every big catch or first down

and he didn't put his mug in the camera as Deion has done and try to convince everyone that HE was the factor that made the 1994 49ers and 1995 Cowboys NFL champions

Bulldog hits the nail on the head...

The Skins and the rest of the NFC East are just not S-E-X-Y enough for the Hall of Fame (of course, Cowgirls get special consideration). I think thats the major problem for our HOF candidates, the traditional NFC East style of play and tradition of doing the talking on the field not off of it. Guys like Monk just don't get the respect they deserve.
