Romo
I was on ebay and bored so i began searching the big ticket items area and found something that is incredibly odd. A couple are auctioning off their unborn child's name to corporate america. here is the link to the ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2905232230 I am not making this up although it may be some sort of hoax. They already have one bid for $10,000.
Brave
I certainly hope that's a hoax. I couldn't imagine parents willing to put their child through a lifetime of potential embarassment and ridicule for a measly $10K. Then again, in a world where they find kids dead in storage containers, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
NASMTrainer
You shouldn't be surprised. Some people will do anything for money. These so called parents should not be allowed to produce offspring. Others might feel it's ok but I don't.
@DCGoldPants
I know a girl who offered tickets to her college graduation...before she even got accepted. She needed the money to pay for school. The the story ran in the Washington Post and she ended up with a free ride to school. Still there right now.
Nighthawk
It's not a hoax and they aren't the first one's to do it. I never followed up on it so I don't know if anybody every bought the rights but it's for real.
Kilmer17
That's terrible. I need to go now and play with my kids. Microsoft and Exxon Jones. Seriously though, I heard a story about a couple of college kids who got a company to sponsor their wardrobe for school. Shorts, Tee's, Polo's etc.
redman
What's funny is that there's no way for anyone to prevent the child from insisting upon being referred to by a nickname, and then formally changing their name.
Romo
All I know is that if I were stupidly wealthy with too much money to spend I would be tempted to spend money on this just to ensure the kid had a normal name. I also heard about those college kids who got sponsorship. I should have gotten sponsorship from beer and whiskey manufacturers when i was at school. I certainly did promote both with reckless abandon.
