bulldog
The Redskins from today’s WP are once again in line to draft in the top 10-12 picks and perhaps much earlier than that if they lose the last two games to Houston and Dallas at home. While I am not unhappy about the prospect of adding a potential franchise player to the team, I am somewhat ambivalent about the fact we have had 4 top 15 picks since 1999, including 3 in the top 10, and yet are once again in position to go back into that barrel to shoot again. Good franchises use a poor year and high draft position to grab a cornerstone player and help to ensure they don’t end up back in the top half of the first round in subsequent years. Pardon me if after 2003 I am quite happy NOT to be seeing us make a selection within the draft’s first hour. That is a spotlight that should continue to be reserved for the Bengals and Cardinals and others who have spent much of their modern history quick stepping through college’s blue chip prospects only to land at 3-13 or 4-12 yet again.
