michael_33
Bruce smith has to go! Plain and simple. He's not near the pro bowler he once was due to his age.As we know he wants that sack record,i believe it has hurt the team more than we know. He's terrible against the run and he's slowed down so much that he lines up next to the corner so he can get a better angle. Thats rediculas!!! Almost, looks like a 3-3 defense out there cause he sure doesn't count. I would take kenard lang back before seeing him the rest of the season. We must replace him immediately!!!! with who,you might ask? I don't care! Anyone would be fine!
Luca Brasi
Well, actually Bruce is having a decent season, but he certainly is weak against the run. Ideally, we'd like to find a young DE that's strong against the run and put Smith in on pass rushing downs, at least until he gets the record. But I doubt that will happen. We'll probably see Bruce back next year playing more than he should. I hope we get to see a lot more of Jackson during these last four games. bulldog
the merry go round with Smith SHOULD end after this season. Bruce should have been gone after 2001 but the cap hit and the fact the team didn't spend one of the first several picks on the line meant that he got another season to sit out at RDE. Bruce will be 41 years old during next season and unlike Darrell we don't owe him anything. Whether he breaks the record or not he is going to go into the Hall as a Bill not as a Redskin. He didn't contribute to even one playoff victory here. If we were willing to cut Wilkinson loose after his 5 years of service at age 31, should we be screwing around with Smith at 41? we need better size and strength at DE and that needs to be a priority in the offseason, not merely a suggestion that ends up #8 or #9 on the list of things to do. the time has come to clean house. goodbye to Bruce, goodbye to Terrell, goodbye to Barker, goodbye to Loverne, goodbye to Flemister, goodbye to Shade, goodbye to Vickers, etc........on down the line. panel
Bruce will stay 1 more year as a pass rush speicialist, and will do just fine.
bulldog
Bruce could probably squeeze another year out of his body, but from the Redskins perspective other than potentially money, there is little advantage in bringing him back. Obviously, Bruce is not going to accept being demoted to a guy who comes in for 8-10 plays a game as a specialist, that was obvious over the past 2 years as he fumed whenever he was taken out even for a few plays. Smith is no Darrell Green. The only thing they have in common is that they are 40 years old  Green has been a career Redskin and was willing to submerge his own ego for the good of the team and fill the #3 corner role in 2000 and 2001 and now the #4 role for the last half of 2002. He did that because he cares about the franchise. Bruce only gives a rat's *** about his own selfish pursuit of the sack record. In a way he is pathetic because he is just hanging on for statistics years after he was a true threat over the course of 16 games. Reggie White had a 16 sack season at age 37 for the Packers, Bruce had 3 sacks last season and has 5 this season. That kind of production can be replaced. And if it can't then we don't have the right people in the front office.
skinsanity56
please bruce do us and yourself a favor & hang up the cleats.you had your run @ the sack title.your tainting the legend you will become hanging around waiting for coverage sacks cause you aren't fast enough otherwise.sometimes i think were double teaming the WR he's lined up so far outside. bulldog
Smith has put up better sack and hurry numbers this year because he has Daryl Gardener playing next to him, whereas he had Kenard Lang last season............that is a big difference Jacoby has said on several occasions the Skins need to develop youth at DE and upgrade the size and strength of their front. Gardener was a move in that direction. We need to resign him and then continue to add to the pile
ThatGuy
Its on draw players where he really hurts us cause he's 5 yards up the field when the hand off comes. I will give him credit though, he does hustle on running plays. He makes quite a few down field tackles of a Defensive ends.
