The team spent the days leading up to the free-agent market re-signing three players of its own -- QB A.J. Feeley, S Quintin Mikell and DE Juqua Thomas. Feeley was already under contract for another year, but the organization chose to extend him three more years to be Donovan McNabb's backup. That move also coincided with veteran Jeff Garcia leaving as a free agent. The coaching staff, especially head coach Andy Reid, loves Feeley as a fit in the West Coast offense. Feeley has decent arm strength, can move out of the pocket and generally makes the right decisions. . . .

Mikell was the team's best special teams player last season and can back up at both strong and free safety, although he's more natural closer to the line. He is used often in different "heavy" packages, when the offense goes to a three-tight end set, or a power set. Mikell is a sure tackler, is good in run support and can cover some tight ends. . . .

Thomas, after five very uneventful seasons with Tennessee and the Eagles, played well last season, especially during the team's playoff run over the final month. He finished with six sacks (one more than he had in his career) and showed good pass-rush ability as a No. 3 defensive end. That figures to be his role again next year as a backup in a rotation at end with Jevon Kearse -- if he's healthy (knee) -- Darren Howard and Trent Cole.
