The Giants avoided what would've been a near complete restructuring of their offensive line when they re-signed C Shaun O'Hara about two hours before he would've become an unrestricted free agent. Had they lost him, they would've been short two starters because they cut LT Luke Petitgout. Now the only changes on the line figure to be David Diehl moving from left guard to left tackle and Rich Seubert moving in at left guard -- and that's only if the Giants can't land a free-agent left tackle. O'Hara has been a solid center with the Giants and provides good protection and a decent push up the middle. He may not be particularly quick, but he's strong enough to hold his ground. He's also the leader on the line and holds the unit together and has good chemistry with QB Eli Manning. . . .

The Giants had no problem saying good-bye to TE Visanthe Shiancoe, who signed with the Vikings. He was a poor man's Jeremy Shockey in that his best attributes were his speed and his pass-catching skills. Unfortunately, the Giants needed a blocker to work in their two-tight end offense. Shiancoe wasn't strong or smart enough in that part of the game, which is why Seubert so often lined up as the second tight end. When Shiancoe did go out and catch passes, though, he was effective and reliable. He had 12 passes thrown his direction last season and caught all 12 of them. With Shockey ahead of him, though, he was never going to get much more than that.
