@DCGoldPants
Without mentioning "Uncapped Year", and TV Contract. Can somebody clue me in on what our cap situation is going into the 06-07 season, and beyond?
NorthEast Skin
Look at this: http://redskins.scout.com/2/482405.html Fans are now asking about it, football experts in the media still believe it, so lets try and answer the question once and for all…………will the Redskins will be facing severe salary cap problems in 2006? Redskins’ 2006 Salary Cap Table First though, lets get some facts and assumptions on the table up front. The Redskins will inherit $3.6m in dead cap money (from players cut after June 1, 2005) that will count against the 2006 cap
88Comrade2000
The cap situation is in flux for 2007. Even 2006- because 2007 is currently a no-cap year- you cut someone or trade some in 06- you absorb the entire salary for that year. Can't split over 2 seasons. Also, long term contracts will only be for 4 or 5 years- something in the labor contract. Because the players and owners haven't reach an accord yet; there's alot of uncertainity as to what will happen next. If make decisions this offseason assuming there's no cap in 07 and the owners and players strike a deal before the end of this year; then you could be in for a some cap trouble. We just will have to wait and see. I'm sure there will be more posted in the offseason about what happens- whether there's a new contract or not! inmate running the asylum
A fairly good preliminary analysis of the Skins 2006 cap situation by Robert Large. A couple of points he overlooked though are these: According to my records the Skins now have 62 players under contract for 2006, as listed below (if we assume that they will re-sign the 8 players on the practice squad, who only have 1 year contracts at the moment). The 8 practice squad player’s salaries will not really count against the cap, because they will fall below the Rule of 51. Then we have to figure that the Skins have 6 draft choices (but these players don’t count against the cap until July, when teams begin signing their draft picks). Then immediately after the draft the Skins will sign another 10 or so UDFA’s which will not really count against the cap, because their rookie salaries will also fall below the Rule of 51 which will then be in effect. So figure the Skins really have 62 players under contract, plus 6 draft picks (no problem until July), plus 10 UDFA’s. Thats 78 players total, against the maximum of 80 players a team can bring to camp. So thats not bad really. So with some creative financing, I don't envision cap hell, and can see signing a few name player free agents at WR and DE. Players under contract for 2006: 1. LaVar Arrington 2. Chris Samuels 3. Jon Jansen 4. Shawn Springs 5. Clinton Portis 6. Mark Brunell 7. Marcus Washington 8. Randy Thomas 9. Cornelius Griffin 10. Santana Moss 11. Sean Taylor 12. Renaldo Wynn 13. Casey Rabach 14. englitdaudelin
Does Lavernues Coles' money count against the cap at all? Or do the Jets pick that up?
ChocolateCitySkin
I imagine it'll be the same thing that happens every year. The media saying we're okay this year but we'll be in cap hell next year.
inmate running the asylum
Does Lavernues Coles' money count against the cap at all? Or do the Jets pick that up? As I recall, we absorbed our entire cap hit for Coles in 2005. The Jets are responsible for his new contract.
Ernie5
The Coles hit does not carry over into 2006.

PCRoughrider
We can't keep LaVar at a $12.141 million dollar cap figure.
