Steve Ramsey???....

Redskins mentions:

2. QB carousel spins in Baltimore, Washington

Until further notice, the offenses of the Ravens and Redskins are in new hands. The Ravens, who gained 401 yards but were held to single digits for the 15th time in the Brian Billick era in their opening-night loss to the Colts, have lost the services of Kyle Boller (hyperextened right big toe) for anywhere from “three weeks to two months” (a more specific prognosis will be available later in the week) and must hope their offense gets going under the direction of Anthony Wright, who passed for 214 yards but also had a fumble and an interception returned for a TD in the loss to the Colts as Boller’s replacement. Wright has come through in relief of Boller before; he went 5-2 after Boller injured his leg in the middle of the 2003 season and guided the

Ravens to their first division title. But he was out all of last year following shoulder surgery late in the offseason. One big thing in Wright’s favor is the fact his teammates consider him one of the most popular players on the team. In Washington, Steve Ramsey, who left the Skins’ Week One opener vs. the Bears after he got his bell rung big-time by Bears OLB Lance Briggs, has been replaced by Mark Brunell — a move that Ramsey reportedly didn’t take kindly to at all. Whether Ramsey likes it or not, though, Brunell will be entrusted with running the offense, something neither he nor Ramsey did very effectively in the opener, generating a combined 323 yards overall (a huge chunk coming from a Clinton Portis-led ground game that netted 164 rushing yards). There has been some sentiment in the Redskins’ organization that Brunell, who lasted as the starter in 2004 until the 10th game, hasn’t gotten a real chance to play in Joe Gibbs’ updated offense and could perhaps get the job done if given the opportunity. Now he has it — while Ramsey fumes on the sideline.

3. Kickers come up lame in Washington, Detroit

As if the Skins didn’t have enough concerns at the QB situation, they also must deal with the likely prospect of finding a new kicker for at least their next game Monday night in Dallas. Redskins PK John Hall connected on all three of his FG attempts and provided all his team’s scoring in the season opener but also strained his quadriceps, an injury that cut his season in half in 2004. Redskins coach Joe Gibbs all but ruled out Hall for the Dallas game, and the team has begun contacting free agents for tryouts that could last well into the week. The Lions, meanwhile, weren’t sure how they would handle their PK situation this weekend, at this writing. Dependable PK Jason Hanson strained his right hamstring in the Lions’ opener, and his string of 214 consecutive games (playoffs included) is in serious jeopardy. It’s possible the Lions might try to get by without a field-goal kicker vs. the Bears this Sunday, since they’re not crazy about having to add another player to the roster to replace Hanson, who stands to benefit from a bye week in Week Three and could end up potentially missing just one game (Hanson could still possibly kick short field goals and extra points vs. the Bears). The Lions’ offense may be more fantasy-friendly this Sunday in that it might disdain long FG attempts in favor of going for it on fourth down to sustain potential TD drives.
