Art Monk Fan
Read this story from CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/09/02/hurricane.drill/index.html It seems, FEMA Director Brown, who many feel should never have been given the job, was the first to see the need for a comprehensive plan and orchestrated the Hurricane Pam experiment others have mentioned. It also seems that the plan everyone agreed on and was working toward after the exercise still left NO residents on their own for several days: "After the drill, FEMA concluded that progress had been made, and that hurricane planning would continue. But one of the drill participants, Col. Michael L. Brown, then-deputy director of the Louisiana emergency preparedness department, told the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper that, in a worst-case scenario, there would be only so much government agencies could do. 'Residents need to know they'll be on their own for several days in a situation like this,' Brown, who is not related to the FEMA director, told the paper." So why is the NO mayor acting so surprised, when exactly what they planned for occurred?
Thiebear
1st street through 8th street report to Hawthorne Elementary school 9th street through 13th street report to Twain Middle school 14th street through 21st street report to Mcarthur High School etc. etc. etc.. It was a known problem... and was predicted. They had a plan and they mentioned the schools.. but in the plan it said not to tell the people because the name of the schools may change and the people may report to a place that is not up and running.. Sloppy for a place so vulnerable...
