FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- Rohan Davey, the backup to quarterback Tom Brady last year, was released by the New England Patriots on Monday along with running back Cedric Cobbs and safety Dexter Reid.

Davey, a fourth-round draft pick out of LSU in 2002, became expendable with the offseason signing of Doug Flutie and the emergence of rookie Matt Cassel during training camp. In three seasons, Davey played in seven games, completing 8-for-19 passes for 88 yards.

Cobbs, a rookie last year out of Arkansas, played in four games, rushing 22 times for 50 yards. He began the 2004 season on the physically unable to perform list and was on the 53-man roster for the final 10 regular-season games and all three playoff games.

Reid played in 13 games as a rookie last year, starting two. He had nine tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. His 16 special-teams tackles were fourth on the club. He played in all three postseason games.

Seriously, if I were the Bears.

I would sign this guy today. He'd start for them over that 4th round rookie.

However, watch the Browns and Romeo pick him up.
