  1. Everything revolves around testing and tracking people. If we started doing temperature checks of people who entered the country in January, followed by a test, we could have gotten well ahead of this.

No one should feel comfortable until there are more tests.

She works as a film producer and her small business has ground to a halt, forcing her and her husband to eat red beans and rice most nights, scramble to find small business loans and apply for medical assistance for their two children.

So the 44-year-old woman from the Midwest, who asked that her name not be used to protect her privacy, has had to bite her tongue as friends have celebrated the arrival of economic stimulus checks.

As a U.S. citizen whose children are also U.S. citizens, she is excluded from the government’s $2-trillion coronavirus financial relief package because she files her taxes jointly with her husband, a Mexican citizen from Guadalajara.

“It’s the biggest slap in face that the government left us out,” she said. “It’s already such a stressful time. This just increases the stigma and feeling of shame. It feels like a very big betrayal.”

More than 1 million U.S. citizens, in states as far afield as California and Pennsylvania, have been blocked from receiving stimulus checks because they are married to immigrants who don’t have Social Security numbers.

Some are frontline workers employed in hospitals, police departments and public transit. Others have been laid off or are working fewer hours as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I've been wondering the same thing, at least from what I've seen on TV, they looked compliant.  However, other countries have done better at taking care of their own financially than we have.  If the feds would flood the country with money to get through this, all this rebellion would pipe down a bit.  Of course you'd still have those that want to start crap because they want their hair cut or want to go to the mall, but I think or hope I should say, that would be minimal.

the people leading these protests don't want government support.

People like Elizabeth Warren have been correct about the fundamental flaws of our economy for the past twenty years, yet they remain out of influential power and the ghouls who support this very flawed system keep finding themselves in control of economic policy again and again. Larry Kudlow is still somehow a thing after he wasn't completed disgraced in 2007 for laughably wrong statements. Larry Kudlow is still somehow a thing after he wasn't completed disgraced in 2020 for more laughably wrong statements.

Warren says 20 years because that's when she realized it was broken. The trickle-down lie goes back 40 years when Reagan told Americans the sky was green and Americans voted for his insanity twice, while our neoliberal friends in the Democratic party said cool.

We are effed unless some drastic changes happen to the economy in this country. Punishing corruption isn't enough.

I agree with @Larryon this. I haven't seen or heard any evidence that these protesters were paid. There is certainly evidence that the protests were pushed/funded by and at least partially organized by well funded right wing groups, but that's different than paying people to go.

Besides, why should they pay them when they don't need to? These mouth breathers will do whatever they're told without any compensation, as long as the directive comes from Trump or people who echo Trump. They're not mercenaries, they're dupes. Notice that you don't see any of the leaders of those well funded right wing PACs and other groups who are helping to organize this stuff out there protesting. They're all sitting at home staying safe from the virus.

A Betsy DeVos backed PAC funds the group behind the Michigan protestors.

This is an AstroTurfed movement. Gov. Whitmer has a 71% approval rating for how she has handled this.

These people are not willing to die for anything.

That's completely understandable. I'd even take it a step further... I just wouldn't even ask the government. I'd just do what I have to do.... and deal with the consequences thereafter. And I would expect any other person to do the same, under the circumstances.

But all those beach and church goers aren't asking for permission. So you think they're going to do ask for permission for their livelihood?

Do we really think that this will remain as 'peaceful' protests?

the protestors are basically paid mercenaries, like the Koch Brother tea party protestors. They aren’t dying for anything or anyone.

I’m going with the 1st amendment to start with.

I know we all have to make a lot of changes due to the virus.  And even suspending/altering some rights.  But I am extremely hesitant to limit the 1st amendment.

I think we should all be extremely hesitant and fight tooth and nail to alter or suspend All of our rights. This isn’t a give and trade. This is what we all have and earned.

I mean if i didn't have any savings or food for my children, you damn right i would be asking the govt to reopen so i can go back to work.   I would be willing to take that chance in order to feed my family. Alot of people are thinking this and i dont blame them.

The better play would be to have the government protect its people by giving it a proper social safety net.

It never should have gotten this bad in this country. I don’t just mean Covid-19. I mean I’m general, this **** is crazy. It was never supposed to be like this.

    It was intentional, tbf.

Another failure of our education system.  Not enough focus on critical thinking, how to verify facts and stories, etc.

We continuously take money out of schools for smaller government purposes.

  9. My point is simple. This thing happened quick and no one had anyway to plan for it.

I am also not sure how we can blame people for their spending when the government has given nearly $10 trillion to corporations since December who haven't cared about saving money and spend even more reckless.

I thought we were over that "personal responsibility" stuff with this crisis, but Americans don't learn. :(

    I have a concern

What I'm upset about is the cars in food lines. Anyone seen this? They're Hummers, Cadillacs, things that have at least $300/monthly payments. I own 2 vehicles, the newest is an 04 Canyon. Haven't had a car payment in almost 20 years.

I'm sorry, you better give up your badass ride for food.

    Blame the victim?

Also, how do you get rid of a car when 22 million people file for unemployment?

The world has let us run up the credit card to this point and probably will continue to do so because there is no global recovery without us.

Just...who do we borrow money from?

The US can print money. This is what many of us need to realize. We have been told lies about the "who will pay for this?" and "What about our taxes?" nonsense. Before March, the Fed pumped $6 trillion into the economy to boost this castle of sand since December.

It is time for us to demand more from our government and start holding people accountable.

It's because each bill takes time to propose, make amendments to, and then run it out on the floor to vote. Nobody wants to take that time, especially when there's a political gold mine to cash into. ONE of the parties is going to be taking credit for being the original authors of the bill, the other will only get to say they agreed to it. They're going to fight tooth and nail in as short a time as possible before public support dries up and starts asking why they've spent so much time debating and so little time implementing it.

I think it's because a big and ambiguous bill, you can stuff with a lot of dangerous crap.
