Ballard is 100 times worse than Irsay.

Irsay, irrational or not based on personal opinion, dictated as owner what he believed needed to happen.

Ballard simply sold out and folded to protect his job.

I just disagree w/ that. You are trying to discredit Ballard simply because you think he is trying to save his job,  yet there is no evidence of that. What you're saying is Ballard is a puppet GM. Just remember another team came to the same conclusion that Ballard/Irsay did. The Eagles took a massive cap hit to move on from Wentz.

We get you think Wentz is bum and will flop here. It might be case but it might not. I think most of us hope all those concerns/ red flags are put to rest. Carson does well this year, he returns in 23 and does earn that long term deal and becomes our 5-7 year or longer starter.

We will find out this fall.

You say you barely follow the team anymore; yet you are in a heated discussion over Ron’s choice at QB.

Carson was the best this team could get and Ron felt the draft didn’t have an immediate starter.

Yes, the 2 picks and $28 million salary; are a bit much if this ends up being a one year thing. We’ll just have to wait and see.  It’s better than giving all that for Watson.

I never said I barely follow the team. You said that and that is not correct. I said "my interest isn't what it once was" which is why I didn't come on here that much. Battered Fan was trying to make it out like I was ducking him in a previous post which is hilarious. I am still a fan but I do not live and die with them anymore like I use to. I haven't been to a game in 5 years. I don't buy gear anymore. Last year if there was a better game on I'd flip over. That would never have happened in the past. I have been a fan of this team since I was a kid in the 70's. I went to my first game in 1977. It was in my blood for a real long time but that is now gone.

I never got heated either, other did but I didn't.

There you go, Rooster. Literally refer to his football acumen...

Please address both Reich (can be a top-10 QB) and Ballard (played some really good football for us) as well as multiple reports that Ballard and Reich were not on board (how could they go into the abyss and dump Wentz with no plan? Who does that?).

I'm not even going to debate w/ you until you get off your silly ass Rooster comments. Stop acting like a child.

  4. Riggo44- when did I tout Irsay's football acumen? lol.   All I am saying is he  knows more on Wentz than anyone here does. Including myself. Would you not agree w/ that? Again, he saw Wentz for a full season, a full off season, training camp, I'd say that gives him a bit more info on the guy than we have.

Everyone here is dismissing his opinion on Wentz just cause he's got personal issues. I find that unfair.

You seem absolutely married to this opinion, so there's probably not much purpose in debating this with you much further.

Irsay is a lunatic who tossed around allegations without any proof or corroboration, Ballard is a GM who works directly for that lunatic and who has a vested interest in not veering too far from Irsay if he wants to keep his job, and Wentz had plenty of former teammates speak out publicly on the record in support. Also don't forget about how highly Reich has spoken of Wentz since they traded him.

That doesn't mean that there should be no worry at all about Wentz and how well he'll fit, but there's a ton of smoke there that indicates that the move was quite likely Irsay personally freaking out and demanding that Wentz be kicked to the curb, possibly in contradiction to how the coach and others felt.

I'm not married to it. I have brought up several other things that support my opinions on Wentz.

No offense to Ballard, but I can’t help but laugh at Alexa’s defense of him.  As if Ron hasn’t lived, ate, sleep and breathed football his whole life.  Yet his opinion means nothing.

True but Ron is a coach, not a GM. Right now I'd trust Ballard's opinion on him over what Ron thinks simply because the Colts have had a full season w/ Wentz. Ron hasn't. This time next year Ron may come to the same conclusion that Ballard, Irsay, and the Eagles organization came to.

You keep telling yourself that but there’s a reason you’re on an island, muttering to yourself, patting yourself on the back because nobody else will do it for you.

Without any substantial evidence or allegations, Ballard is just a dude giving an opinion. Which is exactly what I am and you are.

Ballard was decidedly wishy-washy when talking about Wentz. He didn't go all out and agree with Irsay, but he also didn't go in the other direction and give an endorsement. Basically he was straddling the line. His thoughts were mostly those of a politician trying not to take any side (and keep his job in good standing).

When the GM of the team says you have a difficult time making the routine plays I'd hardly call that being wishy washy. I'd call that the GM not thinking too highly of his starter.

  7. Battered Fan-  you are just totally missing my point or you are just trying to twist things to fit your narrative. It's annoying. Everytime  I have presented you w/ something you simply try to pass it off...

like the reason Wentz can't get  200 yards in half his games is because he plays w/ Taylor? That to me is just crazy. That is a poor excuse.  In one game he threw for 57 yards. That is almost impossible to do in an NFL pass happy league. He had 148 against the Raiders. How do you do that against that crappy defense? Heinicke can do better than that. I was watching the talking head show w/ Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless. Shannon mentioned that Wentz is a 50% passer w/out screen plays being called. Only one other QB was worse.  Again these are more facts that I'm bringing to you but your comeback will be..  " yeah but his wr's sucked,  his o-line can't block, he had a headache during those games"  Your comebacks have no merit to them at all.

You're missing the point regarding Irsay. We have absolutely no way of knowing if he actually heard any of that from any players. He said all that stuff without giving any sort of evidence or names. Whereas all the players who came out in support of Wentz did so out in the open and on the record.

Given how clear it is that Irsay is personally and emotionally invested in it and given his past ridiculous histrionics, I don't think it's necessarily a stretch to imagine that he basically just made up the stuff about veteran leaders telling him bad stuff about Wentz so he could keep attacking Wentz in order to soothe his own ego.

And Ballard is just a dude with an opinion, nothing else.

Yep, the GM of an NFL team who has been a scout and or a coach for almost 30 years is just a dude w/ an opinion. Question, if he is just a dude w/ an opinion then what are you? lol.

  9. Battered Fan...

Ballard said Wentz " misses the layups"  FACT

Two teams gave up on him  in two years..  FACT

Doug Peterson benched him for Hurts  FACT

Wentz was confronted by Darren Sproles for acting like a spoiled baby  FACT

In 8 starts last year Wentz didn't reach 200 yards  FACT

Ballard and Irsay saw Wentz up close more than you   FACT

Just saying.  Rodgers hated it when Love was drafted in the 1st.  Brady hated it when they spent a 2nd rounder on Jimmy G.  McNabb hated it when they spent a 2nd rounder on Kevin Kolb.

Seems like this is more of a general QB reaction to a high pick used on someone who could take your job.

True those guys didn't like it but how do you respond to it??  Jimmy Gurrappalo didn't like it either but in the end he played some pretty good football and may end up being the 49ers starter this year. Again, how do you respond to a younger player being highly drafted at your position. None of those guys folded. Wentz did.

  11. 53 minutes ago, mistertim said:

Irsay said that stuff without naming any names. Plenty of players have come out publicly and said they support Wentz and liked him.

What's more likely: that the players who came out publicly and said that they support and liked Wentz are just straight up lying through their teeth, or that Irsay is an egomaniacal asshole who will do anything possible to try and trash Wentz because he hates him personally so he basically just made up stuff that "trusted veterans" said?

I'm not saying Irsay isn't a asshole. But just cause he is an asshole or a drunk means he doesn't know his football team??  Basically some of you are discrediting his football IQ cause he has personal issues.  But forget Irsay,I'll go back to  Ballard-  he also didn't give a ringing endorsement. They traded him w/out a viable option and the Eagles traded him having  Hurts. These are facts and they don't make Wentz look good. Two huge red flags.

Now he's supposed to come here and be the franchise savior? It's not going to happen.

Imagine if your company hired someone younger and cheaper at your position.

At the end of the day, this is a job and the same social dynamics apply.

Well Green Bay hired someone younger and cheaper and Rodgers kept that younger and cheaper option on the bench. In the NFL talent wins out. Especially at the QB position.

  12. 55 minutes ago, BatteredFanSyndrome said:

So you wait weeks to come back with what Irsay said, which is the equivalent of a huge nothing burger.  Nameless BS, when we have confirmations from the most important players in the Colts locker room that they respect, appreciate and will miss Wentz.

You're now doubling down by naming a bunch of people that have never said so much as a bad word about him, as proof that you know what you're talking about.  Even more sad, you are taking what Jim Irsay has to say to have value.  That's about the equivalent of the drunk guy on the street that told Jerry Jones to draft Johnny Manziel.

You should have just stayed in hiding, rather than waiting around for a nothing burger that you think validates the erroneous statements you made a while back.  It's okay to just admit that you don't much at all and you're shooting this opinion from your emotional hip.  No need to pretend anything that has transpired confirms what you think of him.

First of all I was not in hiding. My interest in the team isn't what it once was so I don't come on here every single day. Stop trying to bully me. It ain't gonna work.

Also how is what the owner of the team says is a nothing burger? He owns the team!!!   Do you know him personally??  So what if he is a drunk. He still knows more about HIS team than you do. He knows more about the guy than you do!!!  Do you know how ridiculous you sound? He talked w/ the vets of the team who didn't give Wentz a ringing endorsement. What more do you want? The players may say nice things in public to be PC but behind closed doors is a totally different story.

Also you are totally ignoring the other sources I gave. The GM of the team basically said he can't hit the easy routine plays. He saw the guy every single day for OTA's, training camp, preseason and regular season. So Ballard is wrong and you are right? You don't make any sense. Tell me how you know more than Ballard does? What about the Eagles? His former head coach who is a former NFL QB benched him for a QB who can't throw the ball on an NFL level.

You can keep sticking up for the guy all you want but facts are facts. I have serious doubts if he will make it here and everything I have said has been backed up w/ facts. What you say is basically I'm the smartest guy in the room and I know more than everyone else..

That's news to me, considering you were up in here blabbing about how awful of a trade this was because "for every player that likes him, there are two that hate him".

I never forget, and I'm still waiting for you to prove that - and here you are, abandoning that narrative and hunkering down with he's just not a good QB now.  🤣

" In having conversations w/ trusted veterans on the team, so to speak, when you speak to them in confidence, often they share really, what's happening. What I found out was very concerning."  - Jim irsay

So this sounds like he talked w/ multiple players who really don't want him either. This wasn't one player, this was multiple players, " trusted veterans" as he put it. Now I do take back the word "hate" if I in fact said that. I doubt that players hate him, but it's pretty obvious they don't think much of him when it comes to playing QB. They don't think much of him when it comes to being a leader. The guy was complaining about how no one appreciates him to other injured players during the SB run and then got checked by Darron Sproles. All this is out there it's all true.

Wentz is mentally weak  in my opinion. He should welcome competition. The best guys aren't bothered by it. Instead he is bothered by it, it was pretty obvious he couldn't deal with it when the Eagles drafted Hurts. He had his worst year when they drafted Hurts. That should tell you all you need to know right there.

So you have two teams who moved on from him. Do YOU know more than they do??  Do YOU know more about Wentz than Irsay does? Ballard? Reich? Doug Peterson? Deuce Staley? Howie Roseman?  No you don't. If all those guys said we'll pass then please explain how he is going to come here to this rag tag franchise and make it work w/ Scott Turner? Ballard was quoted in his end of the year meeting w/ Wentz and said, " you can't hit the lay ups." Meaning he simply misses too many easy throws that any NFL back-up can make.

The trade wasn't a good one and I still believe that. I don't think much of him as a leader and he is a bottom tier starter. I'd rather go w/ Heinicke and a rookie 1st or 2nd rounder and keep the draft picks.  He had several bad games w/ the Colts. When the players do not believe in the QB then you don't have a QB.

He's thrown for 33 once and 27 twice and this is easily the best offense that he'll have ever been in. I think 35 is definitely pushing it. That would be incredible, but I wouldn't say no chance. Just long shot

That was then, this is now. Big difference between 27 and 35.

Not trying to knock Wentz, it was the best Ron could do but I just don't see it working out here. This isn't the place to come to re-start your career. I don't think Wentz is a bad guy or anything, I just don't that much of him as a QB at this point.

there are red flags for tons of players...all the time, Bucs took a chance on Antonio Brown.........oh and won a super bowl....you have to take a CHANCE to WIN.

I just can't get past the fact that two teams turned their back on the guy.  Yet he supposed to come here and Scott Turner and Zamese are going to get this guy right? I just don't understand why anyone can defend that.

That's a take alright. I wouldn't call myself an apologist. I am just listening to all sides and forming an opinion, while being excited that we have a real QB with a ton of upside, instead of listening to the media driven rhetoric and forming a one sided opinion based on years of being jaded. I'm hopeful and happy we have a top half QB and think we have a very good team and coaches. I'm excited about what we can do. The Colts are a garbage team with a worse owner than we have and are running an obvious smear campaign to save face.

The Colts are a garbage team?  Ok.. lol.

  17. 2 hours ago, Koolblue13 said:

Wentz got along great with his teammates. He was the top ranked QB for most of the season. Colts are out a 1rst and a starter because of their owner forcing this to happen. His teammates have publicly stated their frustration with him leaving. Two offensive linemen refused to resign and their long time TE retired. They were the team nobody wanted to face for the majority of the year until he got covid and couldn't practice, then lost to the Raiders on their way to the playoffs and the Jags where the Colts haven't won since 2014 and their entire team, defense and all **** the bed. Don't believe the Snyder Allen style slandering the Colts are doing.

You sound like a Wentz apologist. Way too many red flags w/ him and where there is smoke we all know there is fire. The Indy situation just verifies the Philly situation. The GM also did not want the guy and Frank Reich was pretty lukewarm on his comments about Wentz. But going back to Philly they drafted Hurts in the 2nd round a couple years ago. What does that say? That says that the Eagles did not believe in him at all. Eventually he was benched for terrible play and then traded. The Eagles picked Hurts over Wentz. If that isn't a red flag then idk what is.

For every teammate that likes him there are two that don't. He isn't a good QB anymore. Yes he is an upgrade over Taylor but that really isn't saying a lot. A year from now we will be where the Colts are now.
