  1. The centuries long subjugation of 50% of the population ended when women had access to the means to control their reproductive rights. Ever since, men have tried to return to the bad old days. It's really out of control now, and these men and their handmaids are going to learn in November that we're not having it. Coupled with Nazism and Christian Nationalism, we're really seeing what they're doing to try and stuff women back into our subhuman category, just like people of color specifically Black people.

I graduated high school in '76, the Bicentennial year.

One of our morning announcements concluded with a "Bicentennial Minute":

"Remember.  If it weren't for the American Revolution, we might all be speaking English today."

It probably does.  Pretty much every medication has them.

You know what else it does?  It reduces your odds of dying from Covid by like 93%.  (Well, it did.  I understand that the numbers for more modern variants are "similar", but I haven't seen exact, double blind, numbers

As much as I'd like to see Paxton out of Texas, I sure don't want him AG of the United States. He's a criminal.

  3. I was called for jury duty twice in Fairfax County. First time there was a contingent delay so we went home. The second time, we got to the interior voir dere room and them we were sent home, same reason.

I will be glad to serve. You can only consider what was presented in court with exception rulings by the judge. I can do that regardless of any publicity of a case. I do have a AAS paralegal degree. I'm getting a great legal education watching the people on TV commenting on the trials. Very interesting to me.

  4. My monthly food budget this year was about $225/month. In July (month of all the increases in rent and health insurance), I have to decrease to $175. For me and Dancer. It's very meager, I won't afford fruit and fresh veggies. I'll buy frozen veggies. Wide variety and inexpensive. And go to the food banks every month. I went a few years ago and stopped because I made some budget changes. It's time to go back.

  5. With my increasing costs (housing and supplement health insurance) starting in July, my food budget per month is going to decrease by amount of $50-60/month. My lease increase is once again going to eat up my Social Security COLA, the insurance increase is on top of that by about $50/month. It's the best insurance you can get on top of Medicare and they don't offer that plan anymore. Essentially, I don't pay co-pay or deductibles, the supplement picks up what Medicare doesn't. Since I got this insurance (Plan F, no longer offered) I haven't paid one cent out of pocket (except drugs, different insurance but this year I only pay $6/year). This includes a few hospitalizations, surgery to remove lipoma, regular doctor visits every 6 months, and several medical issues that have popped up with regular doctor visits.

The upshot is my food budget is definitely going to be impacted starting next month.  And I do cook everything and I'm a good cook. So it's off to the food banks for me. And they get meager because there are more people visiting them.

It was the high fructose corn syrup and chemical fats added to foods. I'm losing weight just by avoiding these things by cooking everything.

BTW, I typically by a pound of hamburger a month because I can't afford any other type of beef now and I make recipes that stretch that pound. I buy the value packs of chicken and pork and vacuum freeze that although now buying vacuum packs for the rest of the year is out of budget, my freezer is packed to get me by.

I wish I had a Congresswoman as smart and capables as Jasmine Crockett. She's awesome. Kathy Manning is my lame ass representative. She still busy committing illegal acts of insider trading I imagine.

Mine is John Carter TX-31, who's a Fascist to his core. I'm voting next week in a runoff for the Democrat candidate to unseat this current guy. Can you tell how much I dislike him?
