Yeah, it shouldn't have. But I'm just glad that they make it at this point. And I love how they've responded since Prado went down. They swept the Marlins. And Prado's replacement hits a key 3-run HR to win that first game Prado was out. HUGE. C'mon Brooks Conrad, keep it up! We need all the offense we can get from here on out.
yep, I will take it. Go Rangers and go Braves! First time both are making the playoffs since 1999. :wavetowel

Braves only need 1 win to secure the wildcard.
Shouldn't have taken this long to clinch a playoff spot, but better late than never....
right Padres??
-
Giants win, Padres lose.
Padres have to sweep the Giants in SF.

Rangers win on yet another walk-off by Nelson Cruz. But this time, it wasn't a home run. In fact, he didn't even register a hit. Nope, no error. No walk. Cruz won the game with a walk-off STRIKEOUT.
Now that is the first time I have ever seen that. Here is a little recap: The Rangers got three runs to tie the game 5-5 in the 8th because the Seattle pitcher couldn't throw strikes. He came back for the 9th inning and got the first two batters out. Mitch Moreland then walked and Cruz came up as a PH. With two strikes on him, Cruz swung and missed at a horrible pitch in the dirt that got away from the catcher. The balled bounced off the backstop to the catcher, who threw to first, and it looked like it was gonna be an out. But the Seattle first baseman didn't catch the ball at first (apparently in fear he was about to get run over by Cruz) and it rolled all the way to Ichiro in right. At that point, Moreland is rounding 3rd and because Ichiro's throw was off target at home, Moreland scored for the GW run. :ols:

They damn near beat the Yankees for the AL pennant. I mean, they weren't the team of the decade, but they weren't too shabby, either.
say whaaa? The Yankees beat the O's four games to one, including winning Games 3-5 in Baltimore.
-
You know, it's strange (and it's something I never realized). The three teams I loathe the most, the O's, the Yankees, and the Braves, were all dominate teams in the 90s.
This Ken Burns movie is kicking ass, though. I expected nothing less.
The Braves and Yankees, yes. With regards to overall record, the Braves even more so than NY, but it was the Yanks that won the titles. But I wouldn't exactly call the 90s O's dominant. They had just as many losing seasons in the decade as winning ones. The 90s Red Sox were better than the 90s O's. So were the 90s Blue Jays. So were the 90s Indians (who were in the same division at the time). So there were four teams in their own division better than the Orioles for that decade.

Wow....the Rays have been on fire the past few years and it seems like the Tampa area couldn't care less.
Is it just me, or do the they not deserve to have baseball down there?
The problem is that Tropicana Field isn't even in Tampa, it's in St. Petersburg. They need to get the hint and actually move the team to Tampa. Their attendance will go way way up if they manage that.
-
why are you laughing about it?? Not funny.
Sorry, but it really would be funny if the Padres missed the playoffs after owning the division for most of the season.
-
I'd like to add teams and perhaps give greater incentive to winning divisions.
Also, if teams are competing for even ONE wildcard berth, they should balance the schedule. It's especially glaring when one division w/in the league is so stacked and the other is mediocre.
You can't tell me that the Rangers are a better team than the Red Sox, but one just clinched the post-season and the other will be playing golf.
Both have the same record and the Rangers won the season series over the Red Sox 6-4, so Boston can suck it.
yes yes yes YES!!! Magic number = ZERO!
-
...I got nothin'.
It's so sad but so true. The Nationals are owning them so hard it's ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Frenchy is absolutely tearing it UP with the Rangers since the trade. Hit a home run today and he is making a habit in being involved in clutch situations. He's hitting .333 in Texas and has a OBP of .370!
-
The Braves are choking their way out of the playoffs. At least the Rangers destroyed the A's tonight to lower their magic number to 2. A win either tomorrow or Sunday over Oakland would clinch the division.

@ the Padres. Giants are about to take over sole possession of first place in the NL West.

I just can't see the Braves missing the postseason.
Btw, not sure if you know or not, but the Rangers visit Atlanta next year. I might have to make it down for that series. Love me some Josh Hamilton.
I couldn't see it a couple weeks ago, but I sure could see it now. Braves are walking on thin ice. And yeah, I did notice that the Rangers go to Jawja. That is actually the weekend just before my birthday. So I'll probably go to at least one of those games. I think 2010 is gonna be me and my dad's next baseball road trip. In 2003 we drove to St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Kansas City before coming back home to Dallas. Unfortunately the Twins schedule didn't cooperate so we couldn't go there.
But June 2010 is lining up perfectly to be Atlanta June 17-19, then Miami a few days later, Tampa Bay a few days after that, and then Houston on the way back, where the Rangers would also be playing there at the perfect time.
-
We rollin rollin rollin. Too bad the Braves can't say the same. It will be completely sad if the Braves miss the playoffs.
-
Sixth straight win. Magic number = 10.

You are cool but I was alarmed that you were mocking Mariano so badly
Guy is one of the best closers of all time
Anyway I'll be back to following baseball tomorrow when all the football takes a break until Saturday
I wasn't mocking Rivera. I was just mocking that the Rangers have owned him this season. And yes, I do realize that Rivera has spent plenty of other seasons doing the opposite and owning us. But not this time around. The Rangers became the first team this season to beat the Yankees when trailing going to the 9th inning. NY was 76-0 before that game.
Rivera's ERA this season is a sparkling 1.36, but if you take away his games against the Rangers the last five weeks, he has a 0.92 ERA. Two of his three losses on the season are vs Texas, and his ERA vs Texas is 5.79. Hopefully that will build some confidence for us since we have done so well against him, seeing as we might be playing the Yankees in the ALDS...once again.

I don't see much reason to hate them
Historic championship organization...let's harbor ill will on an organization which had such classy individuals as Derek Jeter, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Roger Maris, etc
Even Ruth and Jackson weren't "classy" but they were still great legends of their time
Not a big hater of Yankees
I'm a hater of the team, not necessarily individual players. I never said I hated Jeter; in fact, I respect him greatly and think he's an awesome player. However, I will say that I hold much detest for both Teixeira and ARoid.
-
Braves blow first place
Funny how much you hate the Yankees...is it because they dominate you in the postseason
You better hope the Rangers win their first playoff series in franchise history or else
I hate the Yankees just like every other non-Yankee fan hates the Yankees. Yeah, a lot of it has to do with them destroying us in the playoffs in the late 90s when they were in the middle of their dynasty. And yeah, if the Yankees win the AL East, most likely we will be playing them once again. But I'd hate them even if the Rangers had never played them in the playoffs. They are too easy to hate.

Rangers sweep the Yankees.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Mariano Rivera gets owned by the Rangers AGAIN! WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rivera hit Francoeur on the first pitch with the bases loaded for a walk off HBP! LMAO!!!!!! Rangers were down 6-5 going to the bottom of the 9th. Vladdy walked, Cruz singled, Kinsler doubled home the tying run, intentional walk, out, then the GW HBP. :rotflmao:
**** the Yanks!! And **** all those stupid Yankee fans who were cheering after ARoid gave NY the lead in the 8th. hahahaha suckers!
-
YES! Nellie boomstick!! Rangers walk off in the 13th inning against the Yankees.
-
Crazy ending to the Taxas Twins game. Texas baserunner made contact with the 3rd base coach. Automatic rally ending third out. Ouch.
I just saw that play. I didn't see the Rangers game because I was watching the SMU game. But I saw the ending and that is such a BS way to lose. The Rangers are so ****ed right now. Hamilton is injured, so who knows what is going to happen. The division isn't even a lock at this point. Forget about home field.
