  1. I wouldn't put anyone off limits either except for Wall and Beal.

But Nene would probably be the main guy I would try and trade. Cousins could play with Nene no doubt, but mainly, Nene's contract would become a liability after bringing in Cousins. Especially with his injuries.

It'd be a sacrifice to lose Nene. Nene would be a good locker room influence on a player like Cousins. Nene's also a better player by far than Seraphin/Booker/Ves/Singleton. One of the things that's underrated about Nene is how much better the team rebounds when he's on the floor even though you don't see it in his personal stat column. He actually boxes out and if you pair that kind of player with a rebounder like Cousins, he'd probably go off on the boards. Plus Nene is by far our most efficient scorer, and he's a good passer. All of that would suck to lose.

And all of that would be great for Sacramento to gain. Nene and TRob would be a pretty special front court and they would be replacing a destabilizing element with a stabilizing one.

Nene's his 13 million would need to go towards extensions for our rookie contract guys we're looking to keep. And we'd be replacing him with a PF/C type if we got Cousins.

And eventually, I like a lineup of Wall, Beal, Ves, Cousins, and Seraphin.

Cousins has the body of a 5, but he's more of a 4 at heart because he can stretch the floor. Defensively, he's a 5, I don't see him being able to check anyone else. I think him and Seraphin and Ves would be an interesting front court.

Here's a further question, do you make the trade of 2013 top 3 or top 5 protected draft pick + Nene + Seraphin/Vesely for Cousins? Unprotected?

Do we have to include Seraphin in this trade?

  2. From Chad Ford, via BF:

    http://www.bulletsforever.com/2012/6/28/3123241/nba-mock-draft-2012-chad-ford-wizards#comments

If possible and if the b-ball Gods are on our side, the Wizards will trade the #3/#32 with Charlotte for the #2. They would then trade the #2 (plus filler) to OKC for Harden.

This would be the absolute best-case scenario tonight, and one that would (and should) leave Wizards fans VERY happy.

    Whatttttt? Are you serious?

  3. Gasol + Nene + Wall is a surefire playoff team in the East.

That said, if the Lakers want to dump Gasol, we should not be giving up the third pick to facilitate that. That third pick is a more valuable asset to us long term than two years of Gasol.

Shard's deal should have been the carrot for a Gasol deal. Goddammit.

Gasol doesn't really make sense for us because of our salary situation, and dealing him to us doesn't make sense for the Lakers either.

We can't have him + Okafor + Nene on the squad, that's entirely too much money. Okafor's contract has two years on it so it's not even relief for the Lakers, they'd be giving up long term cap relief by swapping plus getting an inferior player in return. Nene's contract holds absolutely no interest for a team like the Lakers. Neither does Blatche's.

Shard's deal was the only deal we had that could have given the Lakers immediate cap relief. The only attractive assets we have to include in this deal are Wall (Hell no), Seraphin (I probably wouldn't), and the third pick (God...).

The Lakers are unlikely to be interested in the third pick on its own. But they could use it to bargain with Orlando for Dwight. Maybe 3rd plus Okafor and Blatche/Ariza for Pau gets a deal done.

But in the end, two seasons of playoffs before Pau his UFA/declines isn't worth the third overall pick to me. Once Pau leaves to piggy back onto a contender in two seasons, we'd be left with a core of John Wall + Nene + Vesely/Seraphin... maybe. We'd be too good to get high lotto picks but not nearly good enough to actually contend. Sounds exactly like the situation New Orleans got themselves into with Chris Paul. Basketball Purgatory.

Just amnesty Blatche and spend the third pick on a good player. Wall + Beal/MKG + Vesely + Seraphin + Nene is a better core, playoffs in the intervening period or no.

    I agree with your post.

But are you saying to include Blatches/ Ariza's contract into the bidding with the 3rd overall for Pau or did I read that wrong?

  4. I couldn't stay up to watch the whole game, but I did watch a bit of the first half (along with the end of the Mason game) and that is probably the best I've seen the Wizards play in 4 or 5 years. JaVale has been on a tear the past 4 games and John Wall is shooting 49% from the field in the month of February.

I've always liked Nick Batum and he sure did impress last night. He'd be a good guy to target as our starting SF next year.

another thought on Batum....I remember when Portland was inquiring about Brenden Haywood before we traded him to the Mavs....we asked for Batum back as part of the deal and that was a deal breaker for them.

    Batum does good doesn't he...

I meant to record the game last night but forgot to set it up. Had to celebrate V-tines with the lady ahead of the Blizzards :/

Does anyone know when they'll be airing the repeat on Comcast?

  5. I actually think it would've been much closer. The floor was WIDE open last night. Why do you think that bum Novak had so many uncontested threes (and by uncontested, I mean he literally had no defender even attempting to close out on him or challenge the shot)? Lin was able to play as a true point guard, as he facilitated great ball movement, thus leading to open shots. When Melo is on the floor and he gets the ball, there is absolutely no movement. For all of his talent (and he is an unbelievable offensive player), he is a black hole like Nick. If he was on the floor then there wouldn't have been great spacing.

IF Lin is legit (and that's a big IF, at this point), the combination of Lin and Amare would be devastating. But Melo will never let Amare be the number 1 option, even on pick and rolls.

    Well noted, good post.

  6. That's right. He had a Hell of a game. It's nice to have a guy with a set of balls on this team. That's Booker.

Did anybody see that move where McGee ran by himself down court in the 4thQ to get back on D and we still had the ball? Man that guy has zero basketball IQ. And was that a Mo Evans siting I saw last night?

Wall said that the Raptors were talking **** about The Wiz in shootaround. Really? The Raptors? This is our houses ****es!

If Wall continues to his natural progression as PG, we will definitely have something special on our hands...

I love his fiestiness and competitive nature unlike the rest of the ******** on this team.

  7. This is why I can't stand to read your posts Steve. First of all, you can rarely seem to post without publishing a book. Second off, whenever anyone proves you wrong....you can't admit that you were wrong and you pick little snippets out of someone's argument and try to make is look like the whole argument.

You didn't comment on Jarvis Hayes or Pecherov. You also didn't comment on how this team has been in the lottery 5 out of the last 9 years (Ernie's reign) and have yet to come out with a consistent starter.

As thinking skins pointed out, you can't really beat the drum on Nick Young and JaVale McGee being starters because they are inconsistent starters on a totally crap team. Nick Young couldn't start for most teams in the NBA.

You say we've drafted well outside of the lottery, but again, you are wrong. We really haven't. If you want to see a team that drafts well outside of the lottery, look at San Antonio:

    #37 Blair

    #26 Hill

    #45 Dragic

    #28 Spitter

    #28 Udrih

    #28 Barbosa

    #26 Salmons

    #55 Scola

    #28 Parker

    #57 Ginobli

That's 5 legit starters and 5 rotation players. .....that is good

    It's sad isn't it :(

  8. The fact of the matter is this team needs wholesale changes. The whole atmosphere needs to change. Ernie hasn't been successful as a GM....We've only made it out of the 1st round once in his tenure as GM and missed the playoffs more than we've made them. Abe passed and we got a new Owner. Since then we've gotten new uniforms, a new head coach, and a new franchise player.....time to bring in a new GM.[COLOR="Gold"]

    Ding ding ding.

  9. Went to my first Wizards game today since Juan Dixon scored 35 in his first start ever. I pick fun games to go to. Besides those two, I went when I was really young, before Jordan and at that time they had Rip Hamilton. I had floor seats and some lady asked me if I wanted to participate in a mid quarter event on the court. I had to beat a Wizards shorts, shoes, and jersey on and score a bucket before the other kid. We were both about 9 or 10. Beat that other kid's a**. But, I never got my free tickets I was promised. Anyways, I had a blast tonight and the crowd seemed to be really into it, even though I saw A LOT of Durant jerseys.

Durant is local and he is a beast ;)

  10. Wall can get to the rim at will. He's been cold this year but go back to last year and he had no problems finishing.

I think Wall's biggest area for improvement outside of his outside shooting is his feel for pacing the game--varying his speeds, learning when to take the game over on his own and start attacking, etc.

The only way to get those qualities is experience. It takes a lot of time to learn how to manage an NBA game. Rose took three years and playing for the U.S. National team to really make that leap.

Side note, there was something about that summer for the national team that made a ton of young guys take a mega leap forward: Rondo, Rose, Westbrook, Love, Gay, Gordon, etc. These guys went from high potential to stars last season after playing together. Even Durant rounded out his game and went from uber gifted and creative scorer to potential MVP and greatest scoring wing in NBA history candidate.

Sucks that Javale didn't make that team.

Coach K makes a world of a difference doesn't he.

Also, take notice of Kyrie Irving as well.
