Hunter Harvey, didn't even know he was on the Nats

I really thought Cano had earned a shot at closer, but he was used as a setup/bailout. So last chance for Kimbrel?
-
Whatever juice Ryan McKenna is on, I hope the rest of the team takes it. As long as they don't get caught.

Kimbrel 😐

Means only at 72 pitches through 6, do we trot him out for the 7th or go to the bullpen?

Recall an ES poster once commenting that there are few environments more Darwinian than combat.
The things that we're doing? Other people are going to learn from. (Anybody think China isn't studying what's going on?)
On that note, Russia seems to have come up with a counter to the drones - what some are calling a "Turtle Tank."
Obviously, and ATGMs would probably still waste them if they could get close enough. I think that is a rarity these days, however. And there is always direct fire from tanks/SPA - but again difficult to get close in the combat environment where you can't hide anymore.
These remind me a bit of WW2 era "tank destroyers" which were similarly conceived from battlefield experience, and especially among the Germans were, at least initially, constructed from parts of other vehicles that wouldn't have much use otherwise. For example, mounting a 88 mm gun on the chasis of the older 1930s tank designs, because those turrets couldn't accommodate the bigger gun until the Tiger in 1942. The US and Soviet Union also had their own purpose built designs and later the Germans did design theirs from scratch. The concept did not survive long however, as everyone scrapped the idea and reverted the "main battle tank" concept in the 1940s/1950s, along with APCs/IFVs, and lighter recon vehicles. -
Means to start tonight

Good news and bad news , or maybe they're just GrayRod giving a break?
Mean did well in his final rehab start, nearly a no-hitter in 7 innings. He was getting roughed up before then.

The US is slowly turning the alternate reality in Back to the Future 2 where Biff Tannen won.

Out of respect for making sure Ovi has chance to break goals record as a Capital and retire that same offseason, I would not be shocked they hold off exactly what they pragmaticly need to be doing right now.
I'm not interested in what's right or wrong now, they wasted this man's career. I'm fine with letting him go out on his own terms and moving on when he is. This team won't be competing for a title anytime soon regardless.
Pragmatically they don't have many pieces left to sell. Maybe Carlson?
At least the young guys got some playoff experience.

Please tell me that you're not, in a roundabout way, giving up on our number one pick Holliday. It would be quite the opposite. If we believe Holliday is going to turn into a star SS, the totally shrewd move would be to trade Henderson, given his value can't get much higher.
But like I said before, we have three infield spots for four legit prospects. Unless we move Mayo to 1B. Insurance is always nice, but if are hurting in other spots, like starting pitching, the logical thing to do is trade value for value.
-
Assuming all of Henderson, Holliday, Westburg and can all play a legit SS, we might want to trade one anyway, on the principle they would be more valuable to another org than they would be us. Plus we have Coby Mayo at 3B, although maybe they see him as a 1B, producing pretty well in Norfolk.
It is a good problem to have. Holliday's value at this point is not optimal, as he hasn't proven he can hit major league pitching to the extent Henderson and Westburg to some extent have.

Rodriguez’ plan of throwing the ball directly over the middle of the plate is not working out tonight. Sheesh.
Well if any saving grace, he hasn't allowed any "big innings". Just lots of small ones...

Trout choked ... stared at three pitches in the zone.
I'll take it.

Just need 10 runs here ...
At least we saw Mateo make a great play ... I wasn't paying attention and didn't know about the switch to cetner ... looks he really wants to stay on this team.

This is one of those situations where I wish Rougned Odor was still on the team.

After the regular season is over with.
Hey its cool being able to actually enjoy the regular season with lowered expectations, where making the playoffs actually feels like an accomplishment. Brings back that 2007-2010 era feeling.

One second from a shutout ...
Well at least Ovechkin is now credited with the game winner

I like writing code and producing useful things. Work environments can really suck though, with all the bureaucracy, politics, intrusive performance tracking, etc.

That’s not gonna work
Apparently it has, 35 times.
Crucifixion was actually meant to be a lengthy, grueling punishment. There are reports of people surviving days. Which leads to debates about the plausibility of crucifixion account (but I don't want to go down that road)

And yet Leonsis was too cheap to retain the coach who led the caps to that title.
Not sure if I can fault Leonsis for that one. The Caps had suffered so many early playoff exits, and Trotz could not get past the second round in three years of coaching. So they waiting on extending him in his final contract year they ended up winning the Cup and then Trotz was a free agent. They did make a good offer but Trotz just saw greener pastures. The Caps were between rock and hard place going into his final year. If you extend him early, then suffer another early exit, you look like idiots for extending a mediocre coach.
Ice hockey coaches (at the NHL level) are somewhat overrated in any case. Its mostly about the players and how they gel. And having a hot goalie.
If anything, Leonsis was often too easy on people in his organization. At least early in his tenure.

Interest rates are generally low when the economy sucks right?
Since the 70s generally yes. I think maybe a brief period in the early 90s where it didn't align.
The Fed really doesn't like inflation. We like being the world's reserve currency and if people have to eat Noodle Ramen out of a tent in order to maintain stable value of the USD, well too bad for them.

ES was 503 for a while there ... guess third times a charm for our bullpen.
