  1. A couple fun Gold Cup games last night. Well, the first one wasn't really fun until Martinique's golazo to edge out Canada 1-0. And the second was fun simply because it was another Mexiclol fail. I'm starting to wonder when the Mexican fans will start chanting puto at their own free kicks. Maybe when they're not too busy running out on the field (while their team is losing, mind you) like a bunch of drunken dumbasses. (See Chivas/Club America friendly last week and last night's game)

  2. We bought a Zoo. Good family flick. Always like seeing ScarJo. The little girl was the best. My wife kept saying, "she's so cute."

The argument between Matt Damon and his son in that movie gets me every time. Like crying my eyes out gets me.

I saw World War Z this weekend

I read the book a while back and this was nothing like the book, but I thought it was a great zombie flick none the less. Good action and fascinating story. Also I liked that unlike most zombie flicks, this one wasn't stuck in one location (a single mall, town, city, etc).

  3. If you feel your percentages are low off of the corner, then why not just play possession ball from there? Not that they were having much luck with that last night either.

And yea, I have no doubt Spain will be just fine moving forward. I just get tired of one team dominating unless of course it's my team.

  4. Thought Brazil played a good game. They didn't allow Spain to get in to a rhythm and dictate play.

I never really noticed before, but does Spain always take corners with only 2-3 guys max in the box? Seemed like such a waste. I get it that you don't have any big guys, but if that's the case then take a short pass and play the possession. Also I will never understand how a player at that level ever hits a PK that is not on frame. There is absolutely zero excuse for that.

Perhaps now soccer fans around the world will slowly remove their collective heads from Spain's collective ***es.

  5. Never heard Brazil described as arrogant.

    Interesting take reading your post.

    Hail.

*Edit* Do people really not like Brazil? They've always struck me as everyone's favorite neutral Country, shrugs.

Everyone loves a winner. That, and they are one of the most widely marketed national soccer teams in the world.

(I don't have any particular problem with them, btw. It's just annoying that they are kind of like the Yankees or the Lakers of international soccer)

  6. Lots at RFK open at 830 tomorrow according to soccer insider.

    are you two going?

We did not. Tickets were too expensive. Too bad since RFK looked amazing yesterday!

    Shut up Canada

What's the context of this, ix? Were Canadians yapping?

LeRoux was born in Canada but chose to play for the US. They were booing her during the game.

    They mad. LOL.

  7. Yes, I've been to a Redskins game man. Just not in the States as yet. I had the teenage thrill of picture perfect Ryp to Gary Clark long completion before Coach pulled them at the 1992 pre-season 17-15 'American Bowl' loss to the '9ers at Wembley. The only football games I've attended Stateside have been a HS game in a little town just outside of Dallas, Kemp (and man did that turn REAL ugly REAL fast when the local school was getting an ass whooping. They kinda' care about that **** down South I quickly discovered ); and the OU/ OSU 'Bedlam' game in Norman back in '09. A 27 zip Sooner shut-out. Brilliant experience.

My next aim for a game Stateside is to see DCU at RFK. I HAVE to experience RFK whilst it's still standing. Besides, ren has promised me like a months worth of free beer. (Least that's how I remember the conversation.  :P.).

And yeah, since the Bosman ruling and the invention of the 'Greed is Good' League, aka the EPL; sickeningly most ALL the power is now with the players. It's gone WAY too far the other way and boy do many of them abuse it in most every facet. Just one of the many ills with the modern game.

    Hail.

Offer still stands! Mostly because you need at least that much beer to get through a DCU game these days :(

  8. DCU didn't take the Kickers goalkeeper. Dykstra and Willis are both on United's roster.

If you have such an issue with how the opposing fans act you should really take it up with the security at City Stadium. You complained about the same issue last year. If it really is a problem, it's easily solved by not allowing stink bombs in the stadium. People acted a fool at RFK and now we're not allowed to have any kind of flares, etc there.

The fact is you know 1) United sucks this year so people are going to act stupid, and 2) the fans that show up to these early round Open Cup games are not representative of the fanbase as a whole. Smaller crowds do little to hide the jackasses who may otherwise go unnoticed at RFK.

  9. They're using flares there because they're not allowed to use them anywhere else, and they act like that because they know it grates on your nerves.

Also, the Kickers logo is awful.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

This movie was equal parts disturbing and excellent. I was sick to my stomach watching parts of it, and I'm not surprised coming from David Fincher. But beyond that I thought the story was really engaging and the character development was good, though I didn't really care much about the Wennerstrom story in the last quarter of the movie. Felt like it was kind of rushed and forced.

    Les Miserables (2012)

I really liked the story but I just can't get into the constant singing musicals. Musicals with regular dialogue plus song and dance thrown in are fine, but the constant singing just takes away from it all for me. Thought the lead actors were pretty meh, but Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, and Samantha Barks (Marius, Enjolras, and Eponine) were excellent.

  11. How did United decline this fast after going to the Eastern Conference finals last year?

We lost Andy Najar in the offseason. DeLeon, who should be able to pick up some of Andy's slack, has been injured this year.

We gave away two of our top goal scorers (Santos and Salihi) in the offseason while the two remaining (Pontius and DeRo) have been worthless this year.

We can't get a steady midfield play going. Our defense has turned in to poop.

Beyond losing players I can only surmise that it's a coaching issue and that Ben got really lucky last year.

  12. So, how many more games does DC United have to lose before Olsen get the ax? 1-7-1? Pathetic.

It's painful to watch them try to play. Ben has not been able to motivate this team or nail down an effective lineup. When you get to 4-5 losses you should be making changes to the starting lineup. When you cannot execute passes or put the ball in the net, you should be on the bench.

Right now we have 0 midfield play, we have no attack on the wings, and our defense is consistently getting beat.

And why the **** do we continue to pick up DPs if they are not going to start (Bronko and Salihi last year and Rafael this year)?

Also I have two major pet peeves with professional soccer - 1) There is absolutely no excuse for a PK not to be on goal, and 2) There is absolutely no excuse for a corner kick not to make it in front of the goal.

#2 continues to be an issue for DCU. It's embarrassing how bad some of our corners (and free kicks) are. Going directly to the wall or the first defender, or sailing straight to the other side of the 18 where we don't have anyone in position. I do not understand how any professional soccer player can fail to execute these plays so consistently.

  13. I am not trying to agitate, but what is going on with DC United?

This is ren and the problem is they have no legit striker on the field and they really miss Andy Najar's offensive mindedness and speed on the wing. Also Pontius and DeRosario took a huge step back from last year. Just overall the offense is not working and the problem is spreading to the D now. All the while Olsen refuses to make any changes.

  14. I am not trying to agitate, but what is going on with DC United?

Give me a bit and i'll come back with a report for you.

  15. http://blog.foxsoccer.com/post/49623329896/its-been-a-fantastic-day-for-clubs-in-yorkshire

On the final day of the Championship season, local Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town and Barnsley were both desperately trying to avoid relegation to League One.

Tension rose when Huddersfield scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute, Barnsley was doomed unless they could score again. But it wasn’t over yet.

Crystal Palace scored a late winner against Peterborough. That result meant that all the two Yorkshire clubs had to do was keep the score at 2-2 and both would live to play another season in the Championship.

Word of Palace’s win spread through the stadium, and the fans started chanting “Yorkshire! Yorkshire!”

The players quickly figured out what was happening.

Without hesitation, both sides appeared to agree to just hang out on the pitch until the game ended. Barnsley goalkeeper casually dribbled the ball around his box while the rest of the players stood at midfield, anxiously waiting the whistle.

When it finally blew, the stadium erupted in joyous celebrations.
