  1. I don't have the MD final loss hangover today.  Mainly because the future is incredibly bright. How often does a team get bad games from it's 3 top starters and only lose by 10 in a round of 32 game.  Trimble stays, Terps add another point guard, Dodd develops, Cekovsky develops.  This is a team that could go far next year and overachieved this year.

  2. Another thing hit me last night. MD finishes 2nd in the B1G regular season and gets the 16th overall seed.  I don't think the committee had a high opinion of the B1G this year as having elite teams.  They had good enough teams for 7 bids but not elite teams.  Kind of the downside of the move.  The 2nd team in the ACC never goes worse than 3, but is usually a 2,

  3. Yes things didn't look good early with all those players leaving....

They didn't "leave", they were advised that their future at MD would be limited and I am sure at least a couple were told their scholarship would not be renewed.  MD and Turgeon took the high road and did not condemn them and gave them a chance to go.

  4. Yesterday was the best and worst of times.  How many times will the Terps play at Michigan State, and play poorly, and win rather easily.  I say "easily", because although it took 2 OTs, the Terps never seemed hurried or discouraged. The got jobbed by the refs over and over, Turgeon finally had enough, but even then they were calmer and never strayed from what they were trying to do.  Great win by a team that is really good and getting better every game.

Football was a bit discouraging, but in reality the Terps got to measure themselves against a team that will be in the National Championship hunt next season.  Wasn't Edsall's fault they lost, nor was it the player's.  CJ Brown retires and I wish him all the best. He has been a great Terp, but the truth is that the Terps need a big time passing QB to be big time. (Skins are no different) 1st year in the Big Ten was a huge success and the future looks very bright.  I say again that Diggs will benefit from another year (financially).  Right now I don't see him as a 1st rounder, but next year he could be top 10.  I would still bet he leaves. Oh, well. Onward.

    Go Terps!

  5. If this new wave plays with the poise they did last night, the mass defections won't look so bad. Seth Allen was the only one I was really upset about losing.

If a program has received some sort of sanctions, players leave.  The mass defections at MD were because those guys could see that they were not going to play. Turgeon was going to plug new recruits ahead of them, and he certainly told them such.  Big time basketball. The Terp Program is finally at a point where they are competitive in recruiting.  People have to realize that they have been relatively dormant, recruiting wise, for 20some years.

  6. We'll see about this. We all assumed he would be a 3 and done, but it's really been more like 2 and done.  While I am certain he would wow them at the combine, Diggs would be an almost certain 1st rounder if he played every game his senior year.  Looking at 2nd/3rd round right now.  I think the smaller risk / higher reward is playing at MD.

  7. I agree. Let's see it on the court. Turgeon has been able to get some highly talked about talent, but they haven't produced. Let's see some results.

"Highly talked about" is a very accurate description.  I will place some blame on Turgeon, who is not nearly the coach that Williams was, but his players simply do not exhibit talent that fits their reputation.  Wells is the best player on the team by a mile, and he is a transfer.  MD has recruited one HS softie after another.

  8. So is Donovan's retirement as big a deal as it's being made out to be?

Granted he's the all time leader for the US in goals and assists and brought passion when he was on the field.  But, he also had decent stretches of lethargy off of it and seemed to often have sebaticals.  I actually thought he was fairly well overrated up until the 2010 World Cup.  That tournament opened my eyes to what others were talking about.  Will the fallout with Jurgen tarnish his record with the USMNT?

    Thoughts?

To not give Donovan his due as the greatest player in US history would be a shame.  Many times he was the only option on the field and he still found ways to score.  Anyone who has followed the US for 20 years will not hold this year against him.

That 2002WC game against Germany still ranks as the greatest game I have witnessed the US play,  And Donovan played out of his head, even if he didn't score.

  9. CJ Brown sucks this year. He looks like garbage.

Getting beat by the backup QB. Only my teams.

Actually he has sucked as a passer all 20 years at MD. Can't throw the ball downfield at all.  Sad part is the Terps really have a solid team, they might do some damage with even a decent QB.

  10. So you want him to increase the face value on regular season games, tickets that are already priced too high.

Your proposal is a head scratcher to me.  Changing the face value wont change what you can sell a ticket for during the season.  You would have sold your tickets this year at the same price whether you paid $280 per game or $350 per game.  Makes no sense.

Make perfect sense.  He can resell the regular season tix for a higher face value and Danny gets his same money.   But then, Danny won't get to claim that Skins tix are among the cheapest in the league.

  11. Dropped 3 years back after 48 years in the family, 20 owned by me.

I was weened on RFK, so Fedex was always tough. Tougher to park, longer drive (by time), more b.s. like getting patted down by guys looking for a ham sandwich, impossible to even give tickets away, much less sell them, sucky team with no hope, watching a game in a vacuum with no scores, no replays, no stats. Final straw was realization that I could still go to any game I wanted for $20. Why pay $100? Getting Sundays back was the nail in the coffin.

  12. Eventually Donovan will be gone. We need to know we can score.
No question. But scoring comes from controlling and creating in the midfield, and the US did a pretty good job of that last night with an average lineup. They did not score, but they shot the ball instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity, and earned some corners. I guess I am saying that I can see an improvement. Jurgen has a year or 2 to find a finisher and I think he will.
  13. Much like the Redskins last year, this year is NOT the year to judge JK effectiveness.
Actually I'll judge it right now. We threw a lesser squad and on the field and moved the ball as well as I have seen in years. It would have been great to see someone step up and score without Donovan in the lineup. Gave up a cheapie because the defense was asleep. Jurgen has the team playing, he really needs to find a goal scorer.
