  1. Heavy Seas Black Cannon (Black IPA) Winter Seasonal

Pretty straightforward description the bottle. "A variation of our Loose Cannon IPA, with an obvious dark note". I'm not a huge fan of Black IPAs, but I am a huge fan of the Loose Cannon...so here we go.

Dark brown on the pour, black in the glass. Small bright-tan head. Aroma is strong with that Loose Cannon, lots of dark fruit and a touch of roast. Very good smell. Flavor is much more roasty, with dark fruit, toast, pine and citrus hops. The finish is drawn out with alcohol warmth, and the flavors hold up well. Body is a little watery, but this beer is delicious, especially as you keep drinking it. All flavors are pronounced well, it's not subtle. I haven't been a big fan of Black IPAs until now. Best one I've had.

Had this on draft earlier tonight, loved it, went very well with my bbq sammy and smoke gouda macncheese, yes this place SMOKES their mac n cheese, it's ridiculous.

  2. Had the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout last night. Creamy texture, chocolate up front with a ton of roasty bitterness on the back end. Really good stuff, obviously. Chocolate stouts are up there as one of my favorite styles of beer, so it's tough competition to say the least. This wasn't my favorite chocolate stout ever, but it's very close.

have you tried flying dogs imperial coffee stout?

  3. the first and only time ive had this beer was in italy 6 years ago... i liked it so much that i bought the glass in the pic. well i found it at a local store and am going to enjoy it on christmas eve..[/img]

I really like this beer, I might need to get one for Christmas Day.

  4. It's tasty and gigantic, the alcohol sticks to the glass like glue, a little bit of malt up front but the finish is ALL PURE HOPPYNESS. :)

Good luck pairing this one with a food.

  5. so you were disappointed with The Fear? I'm still waiting to get my hands on some

I actually really liked The Fear, most pumpkin brews are to sweet to me, The Fear is a perfect combo of bitterness, and spices, I liked the booze flavors as well.

Right now i'm drinking a Stone 15th Anniversary Escondidian Imperial Black IPA, 10.8 percent, this brew is like a stout but has a HUGE hop finish. I've had black IPA's before but never a Black "Imperial" IPA. If you see this 22, grab it, watch out though it packs many of punches.

  6. I picked up a six pack of The Fear and six of Loose Cannon on my ride home from work. $21.99 is way too much.

    Some good drinking this weekend.

The Fear is yummy, by far the best Pumpkin Brew i have ever had.

  7. Have you ever tried the Utopias? I bought a bottle once. It doesn't taste anything like beer, it's more like sherry. I liked it, but don't think it's worth the price.

    Did you keep the bottle?

    ========================

Are you aging an Budweiser American Ale?

Flying Dog has a 10% Imperial Pumpkin Ale out that looks pretty good, im not quite ready for Pumpkin Beer yet, this will be the first one I try.

  8. Picked up a 22oz of St. Bernardus abt 12, this one is a winner. There isn't a whole lot of nose but this one is very spicy mostly clove and also very fruity w lots of raison and mildly sweet, everything is perfectly balanced. I love my hops, St. Bernardus is pretty much void of hops, all malts.

5 thumbs up out of 5 thumbs up.

  9. Mmmmmmm Nugget Nectar.

The New Belgium Ranger is excellent and trumps the much over rated "fat tire".

Don't get me wrong, I itch for the day when I'm sitting slopeside in Aspen sipping on a Fat Tire, but 22's are not worth the money. Fat Tire is great session beer.

  10. I had the 120 on tap today at RFD, I enjoyed it, however it's not better than the 90 minute.

I almost bought a shot of Brew Dog Sink the Bizmark just to say I tried it, 9 bucks for 1 oz seemed like a great deal and I probably should have taken advantage of the opportunity but I didn't. The local store that carries it is selling single bottles for $90.00. :ols:

  11. I have yet to try that. But i have a sweet glass i took from a bar with that on it.

It's one of my favorite macro imports, one of my favorite places to drink a Peroni is on the beach while eating an Anthonys Flag Ship(italian cold cut fron anthonys beer and wine in Ocean City), yummy!!!!

  12. Heavy Seas Dubbel Canon Belgian IPA

The ***** is hard to beat but this one is okay. It's no where near as hoppy which is why I like the biatch so much, overall it's pretty good though.

I think it would do well with crabs or steamed shrimp.

  13. Thanks for the suggestions! Do you have any recommendations for anything else besides Sam Adams? I'd like to send him something he's never tried before. He also likes dark beers in general and he's really not too picky, so anything you think is good will probably suit just fine.

Anchor Steam is a solid beer that isn't over powering.

  14. Okay, so I put in a solid 6 hours of yard work today, I usually love a ice cold miller lite after mowing, today I cracked a Watermelon Wheat, then a Sam Adams Summer Ale very tasty reward for my hard work.

  15. Hell or High Water Watermelon Wheat Beer

I must say, I'm really looking forward to knocking back several of these on the beach next weekend. Very light, refreshing and the hint of watermelon actually make this beer really nice.

I give this one a "must taste", check it out.
