  1. By most accounts, Maye was thought to be pretty raw in some areas and might benefit from some time watching. But he had a great "measurables."

So then the Pats take a guy who is more raw has even more impressive measurables.

Two young qbs not doing the little things right, but one of them is throwing the ball further and harder and is bigger... it's a good way to get the beat guys rumbling and writing clickbait and even a better way to destroy Maye's confidence.

Imo if Maye played for LSU they would have had a better season than they did and if Daniels played on UNC people wouldn’t know who he was.

Maye was scared to even play in the SEC.

De-committed from Bama once he saw their QB class.

And I will take all of this back if we draft him! Just having fun.

    Hail!

One thing I can't get over is that every time DQ talks about the qualities he values in a player (holistically, not a specific position), it just screams Drake Maye. We'll see what wins out, I'm sure the selection will be based on a multitude of factors and many of which we don't have access to as fans/observers.

Just hope they get it right.

That quote screams Daniels as well.

This jives with my personal experience. I met St. Brown's father at a local bar in southern california a few years ago. Their family is from SoCal. We were watching a Lions game, and he was really concerned about how Detroit's staff was using him then. This was early in Amon-Ra's rookie year. He lamented his son getting drafted by Detroit.

Worked out pretty well overall, I'd say.

Trust me, if you had no team allegiance like we do, and you were a young man getting tours of facilities and places to live.... Ashburn would not be high on list.

50 percent of the league probably wants to be in LA, Las Vegas, or Miami.

It all works out in the end.

This feels like Bryce Young again for different reasons. I know they have different builds/games/etc. I mean simply from the stand point that their size was an obvious red flag from the jump and turned into an immediate reality.

I hope I’m wrong. I enjoy being one of the bigger homers on this site. I was here when this organization broke @Cooleyfan. Nobody is safe. 😆

To be fair, Bryce Young is playing for the biggest dumpster fire in the NFL.

I’m sure I sound like Colin Cowherd, but man - JD was just on NFLN, and he just doesn’t ooze leadership to me.  Not a bad guy, but just more flashy and me oriented than I prefer.

    Am I a boomer?

    Yes.

    He'll be fine.

Just because he's not one of those "firm handshake leader of men" types doesn't mean he won't command respect.

Also, no matter who we draft, if you hate it, take solace from this --

I'm suspicious that we heard so much about them because the Giants desperately want Drake Maye and have fed a mountain of bull**** groupthink to a draft media that is incompetent and unable to see through it.

Yep. Those geniuses have fooled the overwhelming majority of coaches and scouts into thinking Daniels is a better pro prospect.

The same geniuses that gave Daniel Jones a massive deal even though there were no other bidders out there.

    Unless... it all started then.

As an observation - it's so interesting how things changed over the draft season. I know the media guys are usually behind the FO and once the FO catches up on tape and scouting, the boards in the media start shifting to reflect that reality.

But going into this season and really up until about 4-6 weeks ago, it was all about Caleb and Maye being the 1a and 1b.

Even at the beginning of the off-season, mock drafts had Daniels outside the Top 10. Many said he could get up into the Top 5 potentially.

Then around 6-8 weeks ago Daniels gained more momentum, and it's just bizarre that we're sitting here today with him as the presumptive pick, and LITERALLY - every single person saying Daniels to the Commanders says that they don't have any intel but just what they're hearing is expected.

Everyone says our FO has been tight-lipped. Even the local beat guys are just making educated guesses at this point.

So how did we go from Maye being a lock to Daniels being a lock, at a time when everyone making these prognostications admits they have no intel from the team?

Just a fascinating thing to observe, and something to come back to if, in fact, our pick is Maye.

It's been more than 4-6 weeks.

And it happens all the time.

The truth is the real serious work on players doesn't seriously begin until long after the season ends.

And there were definitely some former execs in the media -- Randy Mueller for one -- who have been saying for months that teams would fall in love with JJ once they dug in.

Mayes work ethic and love of the game have never been questioned by anyone that I can find. You have a link to some of that stuff by chance?

Only thing I saw was some scout -- anonymous of course -- saying Drake de-committed from Bama when he saw who he was competing against and that bothered him.  And that Drake  hasn't gotten better in college in the little areas.

It's nonsense. Clearly all these guys work hard.

And people always forget how young they are and how much pressure they're under. Dudes are all very impressive.

  10. All you have to do is look at last year's mock drafts to know no one knows anything. So many people had Levis going 2! And not early mock drafts -- I'm talking the day before the draft.

I'll be fine with any of the three.  Daniels is an interesting case study.  People in the game -- coaches, scouts, etc -- seem to love him and see him as the consensus number two pick. Yet blogger boys who watch All-22 are in love with him. And they love to point out how young Maye is -- and he seems it in those interviews, so does JJ. I'm not so sure that's the selling point people think it is.

    Anyway, we'll see.

    Exciting!

I can't believe I'm going to have to spend likely the rest of my life dealing with Pats fans celebrating Maye's career.

I think there's a good chance whoever gets drafted by NE flames out.

    Because it's a horrible situation.

Next to nothing on offense and an owner who wants his son to be deeply involved in everything after being told to STFU by Bill B for 20 plus years.

And because of the self-serving dynasty doc and all the stories about how Kraft crapped on Bill B to whoever he could, the fanbase is furious. I don't suspect there will be much patience for this new regime.

Now the qb that goes to Minnesota... that's a different story.
