I think this is the correct way to think about it. A few notes though:

    • We play Cinnci early and Burrow is a notoriously slow starter. Win for us imo
    • You have Kirk as just good? Think he is too low. Maybe the team is just good but I think he is every bit as good as Dak and Hurts, probably better.
    • I don't trust Wilson and the stealers. I know Wilson is not the same and never will be. But neither him nor Tomlin should be seen as walks. Ever.

Dak was a near MVP last year while Hurts was in the super bowl two years ago.  Kirk is coming off an Achilles injury and going to a new team.  I think Dak & Hurts are comfortably ahead of Kirk due to all those factors.

  2. To me, the schedule is always about the opposite QBs.  Here's who we face:

    Elite (Tier 1):

    Burrow (away)

    Lamar (away)

    Very Good (Tier 2):

    Dak (x2)

    Hurts (x2)

    Good (Tier 3):

    Kirk (home)

    Average (Tier 4):

    Carr (away)

    Baker (away)

    Watson (home)

    Kyler (away)

    Below Average (Tier 5):

    Wilson (home)

    Jones (x2)

    Unknown (Tier 6):

    Caleb (home)

    Levis (home)

    Bryce (home)

Really short reminder: nobody really knows anything about how good any team is going to be in May.

We have one elite team (outside of any division games) on the schedule, and that's the Ravens. I define them as elite because they consistently win 9+ games a season, even when their QB is hurt.  It's fantastic it's an away game (virtually no travel), on regular rest, and middle of the season.

The only schedule quirk I don't love is playing the Eagles away on a Thursday night.  Good our Thursday night game is very close.  But I generally hate Thursday night games, the home team still has a significant advantage, and I REALLY hate them when they are division games.  Shrug.  Oh, well.

I don't love the really late bye week either.  But we have a mini-bye week coming off the Eagles game, play Dallas, home to Tennessee, then the full bye week.   Which isn't terrible.

Overall, no major quirks.  It is what it is.  Gotta play what's in front of you.

Well they are playing @ Dallas at 4:25 before that Thursday game while we play home against Pittsburgh.  They'll have less time to prepare, plus. are coming back from a 3 hour plane ride.

    So now its:

    Week 1:  @ Tampa

    Week 2:  NYG

    Week 4:  @ Arizona

    Week 8:  Chi

    Week 9:  @ NYG

    Week 10:  Pitt

    Week 11:  @ Philly (TNF)

    Week 15:  @ NO

    Week 16:  Philly

    Week 17:  Atlanta

    Week 18:  @ Dallas

I think week 3 looks to be a home game.  I predict Tennessee for that one.

I was so psyched when we got Stubby. DPOY 15 sacks... we had him playing read react and get run over in a passive D. Like so many DT studs we brought in - he did nothing here. I will forever blame our collective passive lame duck DCs not unleashing them in our perennial bend dont break carlos cushions littered with giving up 9 yards on first and 99 yard drives. And losing.

Dana may have been the best of them.  I remember Sean Gilbert was here too. Doing nothing.

Sean Gilbert was a beast here.  If he doesn't hold out, we win the division in 1998.  There's a reason he got 2 firsts in a trade.  He was a dominant DT.

Ravens will be hosting SNF Week 1. They moved up the start time of an Orioles game for that day and there is no other reason why that would happen.

    Here is my mock schedule:

Wk 1: @ Tampa Bay, Sunday FOX 1

Wk 2: vs Philly, Sunday FOX 1

    Wk 3: @ NYG, TNF

Wk 4: vs Pittsburgh, Sunday CBS 1

Wk 5: vs Dallas, Sunday FOX 1

Wk 6: @ New Orleans, Sunday FOX 1

Wk 7: vs Cleveland, Sunday CBS 1

    Wk 8: @ Arizona, Sunday FOX 4

    Wk 9: BYE

    Wk 10: @ Philly, Sunday FOX 1

Wk 11: vs Tennessee, Sunday CBS 1

Wk 12: vs Atlanta, Sunday FOX 1

    Wk 13: @ Cincinnati, Sunday FOX 1

Wk 14: vs Carolina, Sunday FOX 1

Wk 15: vs Chicago, MNF (flex candidate)

    Wk 16: @ Baltimore, Sunday CBS 1

    Wk 17: @ Dallas, Sunday FOX 4:25

Wk 18: vs NYG, Sunday FOX 1 (flex candidate like all wk 18 games are)

Pretty sure I won't get a single game right lmfao

I thought SF would get that opening SNF game.  I'm guessing Cincy @ Baltimore for that week 1 makes sense.

I got to watch him more.  But based on that one game from this morning, I'd be very surprised if he's not a good guard.  i know he's a work in progress as a run blocker -- he needs to work on sustaining his blocks on that front.  But as a pass blocker, he has really strong hands and anchors well and IMO looks better suited to guard because to my eyes his weakness in pass protect is about moving laterally.

Not that am out on him at LT.  But I get it when some say good guard, question mark at tackle.  But just looking at him, he's built in a lab, both stocky, strong and fast.

Heck, if he's a great guard, that's not a bad issue to have as he's probably the starting LG from Y2 onwards.  I always thought our R1 pick next year is destined to be LT anyways.  Its already set in stone to be either edge or LT regardless IMO.

I had three picks where an OL was the clear BPA for us, and could have even made the case for more.  I think Peters flat out misevaluated the OL class.  That has been a big issue in San Francisco's front office, and I'm very concerned that it has followed Peters to DC.  The OL coach they hired is another problem.  He's coming from a job where he coached one of the worst OLs in the entire league, and it wasn't a situation where he had crap to work with.  He had OL prospects with a ton more upside than what we have here.  They also had money to burn in FA and went ultra conservative on the OL, basically replacing Leno with Biadasz and bringing in another career backup IOL and calling it a day.  I understand you can't force people to sign here, but we can overpay to deal with an obvious problem like Carolina did.  I didn't panic after free agency because I thought Biadasz was just the start and that they'd absolutely be able to come out of the draft with another starter and some high quality prospects for the pipeline.  Instead it feels like we struck out looking.

The big looming problem downstream of the OL is that they hitched their wagon to a QB with a tiny frame who runs a ton and needs a ton of time in clean pockets to play his game.  I don't understand what's not computing for them about the OL, and how they think this is going to work.  If Ron were the guy in charge of such an obviously bad and incoherent plan for the offense, he'd be getting destroyed for the work that Peters just did on the offense.  Ron got torched for this issue last off-season, and he didn't have five top 100 picks in a loaded OL draft class to deal with the problem.  Instead Peters is getting back slaps from everyone?  The only pick where he didn't reach IMO was Johnny Newton.

I think Donovan Smith is on speed dial IMO.  Coleman is purely a developmental tackle IMO.  Regarding SF, I can't really denigrate/applaud Peters on that because Kyle has very specific wants on OL.  He only cares about athleticism.  Trent has been the only elite OL the Shanahans have drafted in years.  Trent could play anywhere in any system.  Otherwise, they are perfectly fine playing the Tyler Polumbus's of the world.  Shanny couldn't draft OL here either with the exception of Trent.  Remember Adam Gettis & Josh LeReibus?  I tend to think Shanny has full control on the OL he drafts.  His record on that matter speaks for itself (and its not good at all).

  9. What the heck.  Here is my mock schedule:

    Week 1:  @ Tampa

    Week 2:  Chicago (MNF)

    Week 3:  @ Philly

    Week 4:  Atlanta

    Week 5:  @ Arizona

    Week 6:  New York Giants

    Week 7:  Bye

    Week 8:  @ Dallas

    Week 9:  Tennessee

    Week 10:  @ Baltimore (TNF)

    Week 11:  @ New Orleans

    Week 12:  Cleveland

    Week 13:  Philly

    Week 14:  @ Cincinnati

    Week 15:  Carolina

    Week 16:  Pittsburgh

Week 17:  @ New York Giants

    Week 18:  Dallas

Seeing the way Deion and Shedeur Sanders behave on social media, I'm so glad we're not in the market for a 2025 QB.

Seems like he's destined to go to Vegas as they are desperate for a QB.  Minshew is just a stopgap.  We already know the teams set for QB next year:

  11. Interesting video of the Jets draft.  Apparently we were in trade talks with the Jets for 53.  See the video here (Starts at 26:26)

Apparently the Jets (who wanted Roman Wilson or Corley) at 53 were offering 111+134 (which doesn't make any sense) for 53.  I assume we were also getting 72 in that deal.

So, it would have been 53 for 72+111+134.

BPA candidate and solid first round talent.  The guys I had over him were Suamataia, Beebe, Corum, and DeJean, but he was the next one after that, and there was no chance anyone would ever pick Beebe or Corum over him.  I had him at 25th overall, so the value is +11 for where we got him.  I had him in the same tier as Byron Murphy, and that Newton had a reasonable case for being IDL1.

I think it's a good pick, and that IDL was being slept on as a big need.  We have rotation depth at Edge, but zero quality rotation players behind Daron and Allen.  Their snaps have been way too high throughout their careers, and it was going to become a major problem as they enter their late 20s.

Yeah, I agree with you.  A team taking Newton in the 15-30 range would have been justified.  Mathis is going to get cut probably.  Giving Allen & Payne some rest is a major need for us.
