I think the team should change to the darks at home. To me, the "home whites" were a Joe Gibbs thing and they somewhat defined our golden age of success in the 1980s and early 1990s.
I think they should stay unique to him and we should sport the darks at home (maybe with gold pants??) like we did when Marty came in to coach.
-
I like that actually...very nice!
-
Actually, that was a Bobby Beatherd decision that Gibbs continued ever since.
Oh, good to know...I never knew that. I still think it should change now that the Gibbs Dynasty is over.
-
I hafta disagree with that part ... for one reason.
By wearing white at home, it means the Cowgirls hafta wear their dark jerseys here ... and we all know that's not their preference. And I like us having the power to make them do something they don't want to.
Well, I never LOVED the idea that we changed what we do because of them. I think it's almost more of a slap in the face not to acknowledge their traditions rather than base what you do around them.
-
I completely agree. I don't have any huge ideas for how we should update them, but I like the idea of leaving the old Gibbs uniforms behind.
Some random thoughts...these uniforms are NOT classic as some people argue. They are only about 30 years old. The Packers and Bears have classic uniforms that haven't changed...we do not.
Also, I think no matter what we do, the new coach should have us wear burgundy at home. I loved Joe's tradition of whites at home, but it is HIS tradition, not a Redskin one.

Scenario #3: The ugly way.
Now the dicey situation, say we beat MIN but lose to DAL. Here are some possible situations. Even if MIN wins its last game against DEN, we still own the tie breaker against them. NYG automatically wins the #5 seed due to record. NO gets in if they win out (let's hope not), so once again WE NEED NEW ORLEANS TO LOSE. So say NO wins 1 of 2 as do we. As i said in #2 NO owns the conference record tie breaker so we don't make it this year. If we only manage 1 win of the last 2 we would need NO to lose BOTH (against PHI and CHI).
We wouldn't own the tie-breaker over Minnesota if we beat them and lose to Dallas and they win their last game. They would be 9-7 and we'd be 8-8. The only way we can make the playoffs at 8-8 is if both the Vikings and Saints lose out. Basically, we need to gain a game on both of them. Each team has 2 games left so we to win more game than both of them.

We need to roll into Dallas in camos like we did in 1982 or 1983.

Just wondering what you guys think: do you like that the Skins virtually always wear white (tradition), or do you think they should normally don the burgandys at home?
I didn't mind that Norv tried to carry on the Gibbs tradition of wearing the whites at home.
However, I think once Joe leaves again, the new coach should go with what he wants. People need to remember that the "home whites" was completely Joe and should probably be "retired" when Joe goes.
That's just my take. In some ways, I think it should hold a special place in Redskins history like Coach Joe does.
Whenever we get a new coach, start a new tradition and wear the burgundy at home. We'll still see the whites 6+ times per year since most teams where their darks at home.

Im with you, I own MANY jerseys and only one 70th anniversery. I just thought florida state when I saw it, but I'm really diggin the Script R yellow helmets.
I also didn't like the purplish-looking burgundy. I like the deeper redish color in the pictures earlier in this thread.
I'm pumped to see the new look. Hopefully it's something we can wear for a couple games each year?
-
So do you all think we are gonna wear white jerseys with yellow pants? Have we ever done that before? I can't recall, and I don't think it would look that great (probably why we havn't done it before). It almost has to be white/burgundy or burgundy/gold. Personally, I've always wanted us to go gold jersey and burgundy pants like waaay back in the day. Think about how much dough Danny could make selling all new gold jerseys; I know i'd be on the waiting list for a Campbell one!
We did it back in the 60s or 70s. We wore the same pants, just white or burgundy jerseys.

I would love these unis.
I hope we adopt them permanently (like the Jets and Giants have recently done).
We could wear the white jerseys at home and the burgundies on the road. The gold helmets and gold pants are very slick!

I have said it many times before...
There are certain uniforms in the NFL that should NOT be changed...aside from the Redskins, IMO the classics are the Packers, Bears, Raiders, Dolphins, Colts, Chiefs, and Steelers.
Most of these teams have had some sort of tweaking over the years but in todays world, these are classic and should not be changed...I would have added Dallas to this list but, well, ya know...
But they ARE NOT classic...they have only been around for 25 or so years.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE our unis, but I would love for us to go retro (like the Giants and Jets have) and bring these bad boys out every now and then (the way the Chargers sport the powder blues).

Frequent uniform alterations, throwbacks and combination changes are nothing more than a cheezy gimmick to sell more jerseys. So of course we'll be wearing a new uni como this year. Nothing screams Redskins like black uniforms.
Franchises w/tradition and history like ours have no business changing their looks for which their fans have i.d.'d w/ for generations.
I'd agree if the Redskins were doing some Seattle, Denver, or Arizona futuristic look.
We are going to be wearing THROWBACKS to honor the tradition and history you're talking about.
People need to relax about these uniform threads. No one makes you buy the gear and no one makes you read the threads.

With Gold pants :applause:
I would love this combination!
-
I would like to see these:
Those would be MONEY.
The "new" uniform changes that I've enjoyed over the past 4 or 5 years have been the New York teams'. The Giants and Jets both went retro and they are pretty cool uniforms. I'd love the above picture to be our road unis and the same scheme with a white jersey to be the homes.
And again, I don't understand why anyone would care if we did this...let the team conduct its business. No one has to buy a thing. If you go to games with older jerseys or hats, no one will care.
Hell, it wasn't until recently (the last 6 or 7 years) that I even started wearing Skins gear and I've been a fan since 1982. Growing up I had one hat and a t-shirt or two. It doesn't matter if you buy the new stuff or not...if the team is ready for a uniform change, I think it should pull the trigger.
-
bet they go with White Uni's, but ones that look like this.
These jerseys with yellow pants would be ideal for home games. The burgundy version with gold pants for road games would be money too.
I would love to see this be a permanent change though...I think they bring an old school look without losing too much of the current look (keeping the Indian head helmet). Though, I'd be tempted to go with those uniforms and the yellow "R" helmet! That would look sweet too.
Also, I don't understand why people get annoyed about a potential uniform change...I think it's cool. Teams do it all the time and we've had our same unis for almost 30 years.
Why not go with a new look even if it won't change anything on the field. I'm all for Snyder making money if people are willing to buy this stuff. No one is forcing you to go out and buy a jersey!
-
I'm down with this look for good!
-
The pants were definitely different...they had that shiney, metallic look to them.
I wonder if they just got them and that's why it took until week 12 to wear them?
-
I wanted to say something similar but was afraid to start a uniform thread.
I'm glad that we switched back (and I hope it's permanant) because I'd like to remember the white-on-whites fondly as our 2005 playoff run uniforms!
-
yes we have, about a week ago.
*edit* and here it is
You can set your watch to another uniform thread around mid-week next week too.
-
I love this thread...so funny.
That chick is pretty cute too...at least the one in the original pic!

At least the sunburn lady is wearing protective goggles...

I'm assuming you eventually warned your son that the MetroBus was bearing down on him...right?

I hope we change our unis to a retro look (like the Giants and Jets have done in recent years).
Any of our throwbacks from the past 5 years would be a cool start. I'd like for us to wear dark at home though. I would like to look back and have the home whites be a predominantly Gibbs thing.
