Dan T.
The Washington Nationals are on the verge of making the MLB playoffs, which will mark the first time in 79 years that a Washington major league baseball club has tasted the postseason. Seventy nine years. That's a sad streak of futility. Here's another sad losing streak... Teddy Roosevelt has never won the President's Race, an event held during the 4th inning of every Nationals home game in which Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt sprint from center field to the finish line near home plate. George, Thomas, and Abe have all won their share. Teddy's at 516 straight losses and counting. Five hundred sixteen. ESPN, through its E:60 series, delved into this tragic record with this poignant mini-documentary narrated by Ken Burns. (Kudos to good sport John McCain for providing expert historical perspective in the film.) Keep the tissues ready as you watch this sad tale of futility, cheating, and even possible conspiracy: http://vimeo.com/49737118 The best resource for more information is the Let Teddy Win website. Dan T.
Teddy was assisted by a Phake Phillie Phanatic, who knocked Abe, George, and Tom to the ground, allowing Teddy to win. He was also assisted by a mysterious brief case containing a gift of gold UnderArmour running shoes. Nice product placement there, UnderArmour.
