Harris Gets 'Back In the Flow'

Cornerback Walt Harris, one of the Redskins off-season acquisitions, participated in his first practice as a Redskin on Monday afternoon. Harris walked off the field with his left knee wrapped up due to soreness, but otherwise he said his knee felt fine after the two-hour practice.

"The plan was to just go out there and finish the individual drills, get back in the flow of things and see how it feels," Harris said. "It felt good."

Earlier in the day, Harris passed his physical and the Redskins put him back on the active roster. He had previously been listed as physically unable to perform/active.

Harris has had tendonitis in his left knee since the end of last season. He was not able to participate in any of the Redskins' off-season mini-camps and missed the first two weeks of training camp.

There is no timetable for when he will see action, but he is hopeful to be ready for the start of the regular season.

"With the type of injury I had, you can't really put a timetable on it," he said. "I just need to go out there, see how I feel, and go from there."

Added head coach Joe Gibbs: "We wanted to get Walt back out there because he's made great improvement [in his knee]. We're really fortunate there that he was able to bounce back. We thought he could be [out] up to the regular season. So it's good to get him now. At what point he'll be ready for reps, it'll be up to the coaches."

Harris was signed by the Redskins in mid-March. The 5-11 and 192 pounder played his first six seasons with the Chicago Bears and the past two with the Indianapolis Colts. He has started 113 games and appeared in 118, totaling 601 tackles (435 solo) with 17 interceptions and 124 passes defensed.
