Most overrated player in history

Montana and Marino are great QBs but they didn't have the ability to do what Elway did.  The role out and fire it 60 yards to the opposite side of the field.  The clutch drives, the escape ability.  Guy had every skill you want in a QB.  I didn't even like Denver and rooted against them, but who didn't want to have that type of skill? And he didn't have the Marks Brothers or Rice, Clarke, Taylor or Craig in his early days.  He had the Three freakin Amigos for much of his career.  That's about as average as you can get for skill players in 80s/early 90s.  Shannon Sharpe didn't develop until '93 and he got Rod Smith, Mccaffery and TD well into his 30s.

If you want to say he's overrated because he should have won more SBs with the individual talent he had, I guess go ahead.  But 5 SBs with 2 wins, top 10 in career yards and TDs.  That's not overrated.

No, Elway is overrated because his defense got him far on his early career.

Elway is overrated because people think he was one of the greatest QBs ever when he doesn't belong in that conversation. His career hasn't been better than Eli Manning's statistically against their peers.

The whole Elway thing is because fans think he is sexy (in footballing terms) but the substance isn't there. Your entire post showed that.

Montana and Marino were better quarterbacks. Moon could be argued as better tool.
