Key Offensive Statistics

Amidst all the disappiontment from the big loss, some interesting statistics have surfaced. Here are a few I have discovered.

-First and foremost, we have the #1 offense in the league. That breaks down like this: tied for #1 passing offense (PIT), and #5 in rushing offense.

-Next, and most distinguishing stat, we are convincingly ahead of the NFL in plays for 20+ yards. We have 18 in 3 games, while the next best team has 13.

-OK, now for the negatives- we have lost the most yardage in the NFL through sacks...80 yards have been surrendered that way.

-What about penalty yards? Where do you stand with that? Well, as we all know, not very well. But not in last place...Tampa holds that crown, convincingly. We are 28th...some room for improvement there.

-And, for the most disgusting stat- net punt average-dead last in the NFL @ 27.8 net yds. Pitiful.

So just some areas to note, and recognize where we are strong, and where we need work.

I would not be discouraged by that punt stat because it is misleading. We are punting quite a bit from around the opponents 35 yd line to midfield. Just out of FG range but too close to kick it for distance.

That doesn't leave a lot of room for gaudy punting STATS, but we haven't been too bad at keeping the opponents pinned back. Just missed a couple yesterday.

The truly disgusting thing would be how many drives we have that bog down just short of the red zone. We missed several scoring chances yesterday from that area of the field ... any one of which ultimately could have won the game.

The stats are misleading, and Barker did have a good game.

4-10-NYG36 (12:57) B.Barker punts 29 yards to NYG 7, downed by WAS-D.Terrell.

4-1-WAS45 (15:00) B.Barker punts 36 yards to NYG 19, out of bounds.

4-10-NYG47 (8:31) B.Barker punts 47 yards to end zone, Touchback.

4-17-NYG39 (12:07) B.Barker punts 39 yards to end zone, Touchback.

You can't complain too much when all of your punts were either TBs or inside the 20.

In the previous game:

4-19-WAS21 (8:47) B.Barker punts 52 yards to ATL 27, A.Rossum to ATL 42 for 15 yards (B.Johnson).

4-10-WAS44 (2:25) B.Barker punts 48 yards to ATL 8, A.Rossum to ATL 21 for 13 yards (P.Zellner).

4-2-WAS39 (4:57) B.Barker punts 52 yards to ATL 9, A.Rossum pushed ob at ATL 28 for 19 yards (P.Johnson).

4-3-ATL46 (1:16) B.Barker punts 41 yards to ATL 5, downed by WAS-P.Johnson.

4-16-WAS40 (10:11) B.Barker punts 36 yards to ATL 24, fair catch by A.Rossum.

4-5-WAS28 (6:01) B.Barker punts 29 yards to ATL 43, W.Dantzler to ATL 49 for 6 yards (B.Johnson).

4-5-WAS30 (2:45) B.Barker punts 38 yards to ATL 32, A.Rossum to WAS 42 for 26 yards (O.Grant).

4-3-ATL32 (:31) B.Barker punts 24 yards to ATL 8, A.Rossum to ATL 9 for 1 yard (I.Ohalete, D.Terrell).
