Mark The Homer Posted October 12, 2011 Share Posted October 12, 2011 PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 12, 2011 WASHINGTON REDSKINS NAME BRIAN GAINES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS CHARITABLE FOUNDATION ASHBURN, VA. –The Washington Redskins have announced the appointment of Brian Gaines as Executive Director of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. Gaines will be responsible for fundraising and the foundation’s overall strategic direction. Gaines brings more than 20 years of leadership, philanthropic and management experience to the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. He has spent the majority of his professional career working for and creating several entrepreneurial endeavors in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Previously, Gaines served as Vice President of Partnerships, Marketing and Regional Operations at College Summit. He held key leadership roles at several nationally recognized nonprofits, assisting them in achieving increasing social impact. He was also the Founding Executive Director of the Joshua Venture, a venture philanthropy fund working to support innovative projects. “The Redskins are excited to have someone as passionate, driven and energetic as Brian,” said Bruce Allen, Redskins Executive Vice President/General Manager and President of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation. “His extensive experience in developing fundraising and sustainability strategies will be an essential component to the growth of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.” Earlier in his career, Gaines served as CEO and Managing Partner of a chain of Ben & Jerry’s retail outlets in the San Francisco Bay Area and was the Western Regional Business Manager for Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc. In addition, Gaines is the former President of the San Francisco Human Services Commission and was instrumental in founding several nonprofit organizations, including Ice Cream on Wheels (ICOW). “I am excited to have an opportunity to work with an organization with such a rich history and tradition in this community,” Gaines said. “With the commitment of the Washington Redskins, the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation has an opportunity to raise the bar on how sports philanthropies can increase their impact while changing the lives of thousands of children and families across the region.” A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, Gaines now lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his wife and two children.
