"Facts" and opinions on Watson

APB

Recommended Posts

1. He is somewhere between a serviceable back and a future All-Pro (based on the numerous opinions expressed in other strings).

2. Another serviceable back would not help the Redskins win the Super Bowl this year.

3. A future All-Pro would not help the Redskins win the Super Bowl this year.

4. This is a team building for a run over the next couple of years, not this year. Even the most optimistic fans on this board don't seem to realistically see this year's Redskins as being a team that can contend for a title.

5. Given the fact that Watson is a Free-Agent-to-be, Sultan and Betts are much more likely to be a part of that run than Watson.

If Watson were to put up good numbers this year, chances are he'd want more money than a team using a RB by committee approach would be willing to spend. If he wanted huge money, would his proponents and defenders today say that he earned it or would they say that he put up big numbers because of the scheme or the effective passing game or an improved O-Line?

In other words, I (being an optimist and having some faith in the origanization) think that this move sends a positive signal. We're not aiming for passable and we're not going to settle for mediocrity. We're building a team that will be a real contender for several years and we're doing so realistically and intelligently.
