PLACITAS, N.M. (AP)—

Louis "Red" Stephens, a guard for the Washington Redskins from 1955 to 1960, has died. He was 72.

Stephens, a member of the University of San Francisco's unbeaten team in 1951, died Sunday.

After being drafted in the 23rd round by the Chicago Cardinals in 1952, he spent two years in the Army and joined the Redskins in 1955, retiring in 1960. He was offensive line coach at Notre Dame from 1960-63 and a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1960-63.

He moved to Placitas 37 years ago and worked as an insurance agent, retiring in 1995.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; four children and three brothers.
