There are several text tutorials there. http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/official-tutorial-index-t20079.html I would start with Cutting Out Renders Using The Paths Tool By fencepost Blending Images In Gimp By fencepost (I think this was done with an earlier version of Gimp.
