PHILADELPHIA -- It's still not clear how much DeSean Jackson will play against the Rams on Sunday in the season opener.

Kevin Curtis is still recovering from surgery to repair a sports hernia and Reggie Brown just recently returned to practice after a suffering a hamstring strain in the second preseason game.

But the Rams aren't leaving anything to chance.

In practice Wednesday, the Rams used one of their own to simulate the Eagles' rookie wideout on the scout team during practice, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

Derek Stanley, a practice-squad receiver, wore DeSean Jackson's No. 10 red pinafore as the team prepared for its Sunday opener against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

Usually, teams isolate a handful of players from the opposing team's offense and defense to emulate. The jerseys are usually red and the players mimic the routes or assignments that have been gleaned through scouting.

Apparently, Jackson has made enough of an impression in the preseason to become a target of the opponent.

"We certainly know a lot about him," Rams coach Scott Linehan told Eagles reporters via conference call.

The Rams were the first team to draft a wide receiver in April, but they opted to go with Houston wideout Donnie Avery.

Avery, also an explosive returner like Jackson, recently suffered a knee sprain and might not play Sunday.

Reid said Jackson would probably play more than some of his other rookie receivers have in the past.

"He'll have a great challenge this week because their defense is very active and their corners like to get right up on you and challenge you every play," Reid said. "Even in the zone coverage, they are going to be up there challenging you, so this will be good work for him right there."

Clemons creeping back

The Eagles kept defensive end Chris Clemons over Jerome McDougle despite the fact that Clemons missed the last three preseason games and a lot of practice time with injuries.

Clemons has started practicing again this week, but Reid couldn't say for sure how effective the former Raider would be Sunday. Clemons was supposed to be a situation pass-rusher from the left side and help on special teams.

"Clemons is working in and rotating in there right now, just kind of getting into the swing of things," Reid said. "We'll see how he does this week."

Asked if Clemons could work his way into the rotation at defensive end, Reid seemed optimistic.

"Yeah, the one thing I know is that he's in pretty good shape," Reid said. "The injured players, those guys work hard. Now, it's just a matter of him getting his timing down in the football part."
