redman Posted January 31, 2003 Share Posted January 31, 2003 I don't have time to post my views at the moment, but the SOTU address and the corresponding thread hit upon Bush's comments. I'm a lawyer who practices in civil litigation defense work out here in LA. A good part of my practice is devoted to defending doctors in malpractice. And CA has legislation - the Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act ("MICRA") which was enacted in 1972 that incorporates many of the tort reform ideas that are being discussed now by Bush and others. Obviously, I'm in many ways on the front lines as it respects the way that this version of tort reform actually plays out, and the doctors' opinions on it, etc. I have many thoughts on this issue, which I think is far more complex than most people give it credit, and I will post these later.
