2002 Defensive Tackle Rankings

By TFY Draft Preview

Date: Nov 24, 2002

*Updated 12/1 with links and comments* In what looks to be a rather deep year at defensive tackle with quality at the top of this year's class, as many as three interior defenders could hear their names called during the initial 12 selections next April, assuming the top underclassmen enter the draft, with another pair carrying first round grades. Here's our defensive tackle rankings from top to bottom. *Photos courtesy of Getty Images.*

2002 DEFENSIVE TACKLE RANKINGS

Jimmy Kennedy Penn St 5Sr

Big, powerful athlete that dominates the game in many aspects.

Vince Wilfolk Miami-Fl 3So (Probably not coming out)

Potentially an early pick in the future and a terrific NFL player in time as he develops both mentally and physically.

Dewayne Robertson Kentucky 3Jr

Tough, inside stuffer moving up draft boards.

William Joseph Miami-Fl 5Sr

Productive lineman hat can be used at either end or tackle in a one-gap or two-gap scheme.

DeMarco McNeil Auburn 4Jr

A player we've liked for a while and would liken to former LSU Tiger Anthony McFarland, though we feel McNeil will be much more productive earlier in his NFL career.

Jarret Johnson Alabama 4Sr

Tough, interior plugger that plays with great effort, hustle and leadership intangibles.

Kenny King Alabama 4Sr

Explosive and athletic interior lineman that can be used in several spots up front

Marcus Tubbs Texas 4Jr

Athletic defensive tackle slowly growing into the position.

Ty Warren Texas A&M 4Sr

A lot of physical skill that must be applied on a consistent basis if he's to be successful at the next level and meet his uppermost potential.

Marcus Jasmin Texas A&M 3So

Young, developing prospect that could be a star in the future.

Matt Leonard Stanford 5Sr

Tough, slug-it-out, interior lineman that gives an honest days effort.

Darnell Dockett Florida St 4Jr

A lot of upside but would be best served staying in school another year developing his game and his body.

Rashad Moore Tennessee 5Sr

Developmental prospect that could move into a starting line-up as he matures physically.

Matt Walters Miami-Fl 5Sr

Hard working, consistent lineman with a great feel for his position.

Ian Scott Florida 3Jr

Nice interior size and plays with top intangibles (hustle, intelligence) but not spectacular or is he a lineman with the great upside.

Jeff Womble Florida St 4Jr

Athletic, explosive interior defender that has improved with experience.

Eric Manning Oregon St 4Sr Did not take his game to the next level as we thought he could after a terrific sophomore campaign but still a viable mid-round prospect that could be effective in the "three technique" or if placed next to a wide body.

Doug Goodwin Boston College 3Jr Reminds us a lot of former Seminole defensive tackle Jerry Johnson to this point

2002 Defensive End Rankings

By Tony Pauline-TFY Draft Preview

Date: Dec 5, 2002

Though not the strongest draft for the defensive end position its' not half bad as there are a lot of ferocious, pass rushing athletes that could develop into solid players at the next level. No sure fire top ten pick as of now but a lot of depth and potential from the late part of round one through the rest of the draft's first day. *Updated 12/15 with comments and links*

2002 DEFENSIVE END RANKINGS

Terrell Suggs 3Jr Arizona St

Explosive athlete that continually blows up plays behind the line of scrimmage.

Jerome McDougle 5Sr Miami-Fl

Relentless pass rusher that goes 100-MPH for sixty minutes.

Michael Haynes 4Sr Penn St

Athletic and relentless defensive end that stops the run or rushes the passer with equal effectiveness.

Corey Redding 4Sr Texas

Should be productive as a 4-3 defensive end or outside linebacker if stood up over tackle in a 3-4.

Calvin Pace 5Sr Wake Forest

May take a little time to develop but a solid defensive end prospect at the next level.

Andrew Williams 4Sr Miami-Fl

May never be a force defending the run but a pass rush specialist early in his career that will develop into the position.

Kindal Moorehead 5Sr Alabama

Athletic lineman that dominates opponents at the point of attack.

Dewayne White 4Jr Louisville

Explosive pass rusher that makes an inordinate amount of plays up the field.

Chris Kelsay 5Sr Nebraska

Needs a tremendous post-season if he's to jump back into the first day.

Jimmy Wilkerson 3Jr Oklahoma

A lot of upside potential but would prefer he stay in school one more season.

Kevin Williams 5Sr Oklahoma St

A player we've felt has been underrated the past three seasons and one that could slip through the cracks yet end up starting at the next level.

James Davis 3Jr Virginia Tech

Solid young prospect growing into a complete defensive lineman.

Aaron Hunt 5Sr Texas Tech

Relentless pass rusher that continually makes a lot of plays up the field.

Alonzo Jackson 4Jr Florida St

A good amount of upside potential should he stay in college one more season and develop his game.

Nick Burley 5Sr Fresno St

A potentially effective pass rush specialist that could eventually grow into an every down left defensive end in a 4-3.

Tully Banta-Cain 5Sr California

Could develop into a solid back-up and possibly a pass rush specialist at the next level.

Tyler Brayton 5Sr Colorado

Solid line prospect that could eentually grow into a defensive tackle.

Nathan Adibi 4Jr Virginia Tech

Excellent edge rusher that makes a lot of plays up the field.

Will Smith 3Jr Ohio St

Terrific pass rusher with a good amount of upside potential as he physically mature.

Nick Eason 5Sr Clemson

Inability to stay healthy will send up a few red-flags but a solid player for the next level if he can stay on his feet.

Antonio Garay 5Sr Boston College

Complete defensive lineman that has a long history of injuries which will drop him down draft boards.

Greg Gathers 4Sr Georgia Tech

Good athlete and team leader sidelined in 2002 with a kidney ailment.
