Lack of Heart - a SkinsXL fanview

The Redskins strolled into Giants Stadium yesterday after an emotional win in OT against the Jaguars in OT. A game in which the Skins offense racked up almost 500 total yards and scored 36 points on a defense that many regard as one of the best in the league. The offense had finally arrived after 2 strong weeks and hope was restored.

Yesterday the Redskins played what was to be a defense with more problems than their own and glaring weaknesses that the offense could exploit. This was to be a defining moment for this offense and solidify the Skins Playoff and Chamoinship aspirations.

The coin was tossed, the Redskins win and elect to receive. Once the dust settled, the Redskins had lost in similar fashion to last year's 36-0 drubbing at the hands of those same Giants. Although the score reflected a close game 19 - 3. The game was never in reach for the Redskins. Outplayed in ever facet of the game the Redskins left Giants stadium humbled.

There is outrage among the Redskins faithful.

"Gibbs is washed up!"

"Brunell is horrible!"

"Without Sean Springs, our defense is worthless!"

Are a few of the sentaments expressed.

The fact is very simple, the Redskins needed this loss more than they needed a win. I know this sounds ridiculous, but the first line says it all, "The Redskins strolled into Giants Stadium...". The Redskins came in overconfident and underprepared and the Giants took advantage of it. They played with no passion or intensity as well, expecting the Giants to be a pushover. The players underestimated the Giants and the Giants smacked them back into reality. This is the players wake-up call. The coaches had theirs in week one against Minnesota. Now, it is the players' turn.

This Redskins team is lacking what last years team had that made them so special, HEART. Yesterdays game was a testament to how true this statement is. The Giants players are flying around the ball making hits and making big plays in key situations while the Redskins are just expecting things to happen as they did in the last two weeks. The players need to use this game to fuel the rest of the year. They need to remember this game and make sure they never underestimate another team again.

Yesterday's problem wasn't Joe Gibbs' decisions to kick a FG or go for a 4th and 1, Brunell not playing like he has the last two games or the Defense playing poorly. The problem was HEART.

Remember this game Skins and use it as learning and a growing experience. The Giants wanted the game more than you did yesterday, don't ever let it happen again.
