D'Pablo Posted September 25, 2006 Share Posted September 25, 2006 Has anyone noticed the way we've been aligning our defensive linemen? It looks completely different from what I've seen in the past. The DEs keep a lot of distance from the DTs, and the DTs, meanwhile, are almost side by side. I can't help but believe these large gaps are allowing teams to run on us. Anyone have more insight into this? I understand how gaps work and such, but this seems foreign to me. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Redskins4ever Posted September 25, 2006 Share Posted September 25, 2006 I believe that called a gap defensive front or a gap defense. It makes it easier and more basic for the LBs to fill those gaps, especially on running plays by the offense. It's suppose to occupy the guards or center and frees up either of the three LBs who go unblocked to make the play. Kurt Schottenheimer had the exact same scheme when he was here. With a powerful RB like Ron Dayne, you want to collide with him as soon as possible and the gap defense helps with that Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
