Sources: Brees prefers DolphinsMiami -- which signed left tackle L.J. Shelton to a four-year, $15 million deal -- is still trying to work out a deal with QB Drew Brees.BY JASON COLEjcole@MiamiHerald.comThe Dolphins signed a new left tackle to help protect their quarterback.

They now hope to have a new quarterback to protect. As of late Monday, indications were that Drew Brees was leaning toward signing with the Dolphins and that agent Tom Condon was waiting to see if the team came up with an acceptable offer.

Condon did not return several messages from The Miami Herald on Monday, but sources indicated that Brees preferred the Dolphins over New Orleans even though the Saints made a more lucrative offer when he visited them Saturday and Sunday.

As for protection for Brees, the Dolphins signed left tackle L.J. Shelton to a four-year, $15 million contract Monday, filling the starter spot opened after releasing Damion McIntosh two weeks ago.
