"REPORT POST" Feature - PLEASE READ

There has been a trend of late wherein posters are misusing the “Report a Post” feature.

Be advised that this feature is intended for members to help the Staff moderate the board by calling to their attention clear violations of board rules/guidelines. It is NOT intended to be used to attempt to gain advantage over a poster you happen to be engaging in heated debate.

We have had several reports lately from posters actively engaged in “spirited” debates who have elected to report another party for behavior practically identical to their own. This is not only akin to running to teacher in secret to “tell” when someone uses a better cuss word than you in a playground argument, but also requires the Staff to waste a tremendous amount of time researching the threads in question, which more often than not have devolved into a series of infantile personal exchanges with little or no relation to the actual thread topic.

Trust us, after slogging through several pages of “I know you are, but what am I?” dialogue, when we ultimately discover that the person reporting the post is every bit as guilty as the person they have reported, it does precious little for our Holiday cheer.

If this trend continues, we may have to consider borrowing from law enforcement and starting to treat the filing of “false reports” a prosecutable crime.

Yes, that’s just a joke to make a point for now. Please help us not have to take the idea seriously down the road.
