The Charlie Weis Wish

Did anyone see the piece on ESPN about Charlie Weiss and the 10 year old boy with an inoperable brain tumor?

Prior to the game vs. Washington he received a letter from his parents asking for one of the players to come visit, so instead Weis went himself since they lived close.

The boy and his family were such huge Notre Dame fans, the boy's name was Montana - after Notre Dame QB Joe Montana.

Weis was impressed with the boy because he was in good spirits and even though he knew that he didn't have long.

During his visit, Weis asked what he could do. He said he asked him "Would you like to call a play?" admitting that he was thinking along the lines of either run or pass, and Montana said "Yeah, the first offensive play. Pass to the right". - Weis, knowing he didn't specify, agreed.

The boy passed away a few days later, the Friday before the game. Weis informed the team Saturday morning prior to the game at Washington.

Notre Dame's first posession was a Washington punt that put the ball on their own 1 yard line. QB Brady Quinn asked Weis "What play?". - Weis replied "We gotta throw a pass to the right"

They called a bootleg pass to a TE and got a 13 yard gain and a first down and went on to win the game.

When they got home Weis had the entire team sign the game ball and Weis returned to the family's home and gave it to Montana's mother.
