I know that Lavar has not been happy, and there has been some discussion among fans that he should be traded. I am not suggesting we do that at all (in fact I am against trading lavar in favor of having him be pass rushing specialist.) Think about this though as an example, the vikings and the ravens need a running back. Ricky Williams may be in the backfield this weekend playing, but I think that he is being auditioned for a trade. A trade for Ricky Williams could turn around a Vikings team that is already going down. The ravens need an injection at running back. That being said, I know in football there hasn't been a real blockbuster trade since the Hershel Walker trade, but wouldn't be more exciting to see more trades in the NFL? Think about the teams in baseball. Teams like the Yankees and Red Sox always are trying to trade with other teams to get talent to stockpile for the post season. As much turnover as there is in the NFL anyway, why not have more trades? It doesn't appear that teams and players are loyal to one another anyway, so why not add another dimension. Also, I'm thinking that football is more of a team and scheme-specific professional sport than baseball. whitejimmy Posted October 12, 2005 Share Posted October 12, 2005 I'd like to see more trades. I thought the Portis/Bailey trade worked out for both teams. Perhaps they'll revisit the salary cap acceleration rule during the next CBA. I think the salary cap acceleration is a good idea for players that are cut, but for trades I think the team inheriting the player should inherit the cap hit. That would facilitate more trades. However, I think that there are certain players like Randy Moss or T.O. or Ricky Williams who are natural athletes and can compensate for getting used to a new system. It just seems that the trading deadline comes and goes every year and hardly anyone goes any where. Whereas in baseball, by the end of July they do a big show on ESPN about where they think the pitchers and hitters on teams that are struggling are going to go to. The salary cap issue, I also agree if addressed at the CBA would be more advantageous for teams to trade. However, the only way the Jets would do it is if they thought there was no hope of signing Abraham, and if he was holding out for more money, we couldn't sign him either.
