We saw this one coming a mile away once Price was in the picture.

He'll catch on somewhere.

Skins maybe? He's 50/50 all over again. It would be a serious case of deja vu.

Cowboys release Quincy Morgan

08:23 AM CDT on Monday, September 5, 2005

From Staff Reports

IRVING - The Cowboys released receiver Quincy Morgan, a four-year veteran, on Monday morning, his agent said.

The Cowboys had to release a player to make room for free-agent receiver Peerless Price, who was expected to sign a one-year, $2 million contract that included a $500,000 signing bonus on Monday.

"The only disappointment is that it's so late," said Brian Oversteet, Morgan's agent. "It really puts him in the same situation that he was in last year because he's going to go to a team after not going through their off-season program."

The Cowboys informed Morgan of his release when he arrived at the club's Valley Ranch training complex on Monday morning.

The Cowboys acquired Morgan from the Cleveland Browns last October for Antonio Bryant. The Cowboys thought he would add a speed dimension to their offense, but he never really found his niche.

He caught just 22 passes for 260 yards and did not score a touchdown in 11 games with the Cowboys. Meanwhile, Bryant had the best season of his career, catching a total of 58 passes for 812 yards and four touchdowns. He caught 42 for 588 yards in Cleveland.

Morgan entered training camp as the Cowboys' third receiver, but struggled and was replaced by Patrick Crayton.

The Cowboys' 53-man roster might not be set yet, but they finalized their eight-man practice squad.

Tight end Sean Ryan, one of the last cuts, was added to the practice squad and should be able to practice soon. Ryan fractured his right foot early in training camp. Wide receiver Tom Crowder and running back Keylon Kincade of SMU are also back on the practice squad for a second year.

Rookies Matt Tarullo, a center, tight end Tony Curtis, defensive tackle Chris Van Hoy of Arlington and receiver Jamaica Rector of Celeste are on the practice squad after going to training camp with the Cowboys. Kicker Shaun Suisham, a rookie out of Bowling Green, is the only player on the roster not to have gone to camp with the Cowboys, but he did work out for the club Friday.

so essentially they just cut a draft pick since they drafted Antonio Bryant, traded him and cut the guy they got in the trade.

- I'm not knocking the Cowboys, just saying it happens with every team cutting picks.

In essence yes.

But the he was only cut because of Price being brought in.

Otherwise, he'd still be in Dallas for the last year of his contract.
