redman
Lost amidst the Spurrier-Marty talk is the fact (I think) that Davis won the NFC rushing title, in addition to having broken the team's single season rushing mark that he set two years ago (the latter was already mentioned). This is a pretty amazing feat given our lack of passing game and the lack of use of him during the first part of the season. He really deserves to be in the Pro Bowl. SPare
Just out of interest, I wonder how many backs have led their conference in rushing and not been even among the top 4 vote getters for the pro bowl. Can't have been very many. ------------------
fish
Yep, I was wondering about Davis too. I looked up some stats. Davis had the MOST carries in the entire NFL with 356 (Dillon was next with 340 - a difference that equals the opportunities Davis had in the first 3 or 4 games). Davis didn't even break into the top 47 in yadrs per carry (Kajana made #45) And he didn't break into the top 50 in longest run. INCREDIBLE! Especially when you consider he rarely touched the ball in the first 5 games and when he did, he became the ONLY legitimate offensive threat! The Pro Bowl voting MUST get re-vamped! Whatever ------------------ HAIL
@DCGoldPants
I heard how the players do it. You vote for the other side of the ball (A RB can only vote D) then they vote for all their friends 1st. @nd, they vote for the big names for that year. 3rd and finally, it's based on stats because players only really watch games on teams they are going to play that year, no time to watch a ton of games except during their week off. ------------------
fish
I read a story - 2 years ago I think - that had the vets handing out thier ballots and telling the rookies to fill them out for them. Again, whatever. ------------------ HAIL [ by fish on January 07, 2002.]
Montilar
Actually Davis is in good company. he's not the first redskin back it's happened to. In one of the preseason mags (it was street and smiths) from a few years ago, it listed the best players of each decade and a small bio. The first great redskin RB (cliff Battles) won the league's rushing title in 1932 but was not voted "all NFL" that year. He was in '33, '36 and '37. (He won the title in '37 also.) Davis didn't win the league title but he did win the conference title.
