“Carson Wentz is one of the strangest dudes I’ve ever seen at quarterback,” said one personnel man who researched Wentz extensively after the 2019 season when it became obviously Philadelphia was going to trade him.

“He’s physically tough. He’ll throw his body around and hang in the pocket,” the personnel man said. “But he melts when he’s challenged and he doesn’t have a tough-guy mentality. He’s not really a leader. I’m really surprised that Frank (Reich) still defends him after all that crap in Indy, like not getting vaccinated and then playing so crappy down the stretch."

“Maybe Frank feels sorry for him or it’s because he has known him for so long … Wentz basically looked like he had the yips. He wouldn’t get rid of it when should have and then tried to make big plays when they weren’t there. There’s a time to be a hero and there’s a time to be smart. Wentz doesn’t get that. He’s kind of a brain-dead heaver.”

This is exactly how i feel about Wentz.  No tough-guy mentality and low football IQ.  He is almost 30 and has not really grown since his rookie year.

  2. Wentz is anti-clutch.  He melts the second he feels the pressure.  When he faced the team (eagles) that dumped him and the QB (Hurts) who replaced him, you would think he had spent all the time to prepare THE GAME since he knows them so well.  No, he had no clue and played the worst game in  his career.  I want no part of him after the game.  He is done in Washington and possibly in the NFL as well.

  3. I had high hope for him but Wentz is proving me wrong.  We were pretty much non-competitive against 1-4 Lions and Dak-less cowboys and blown away by Egirls.  It was better yesterday but still struggled/lost against a mediocre team at home.

We gave him a chance to be starter and sadly, it is probably his last chance.  I think he might just retire when we cut him in the offseason.

  4. Colts GM went after Carson Wentz again ("mistake, not a good fit" etc etc).  I have never seen an organization is so obsessed with a former player.  This is crazy and not even funny any more.  The last time I checked, the guy led Colts to a 9-3 (including two OT losses) before COVID hit him and the whole team.  The guy was 27-7 last season while Colts' new savior has not had anything better in last four years.

I am not saying Wentz would be Stafford 2.0, but the criticism in him is getting a little too ridiculous.

Total Debbie downer. We didn't draft him in the 5th to be the savior or a All Pro/Pro Bowler. With a 5th round pick if we get a high quality back up that has great character then ot is really good value. Now how many excellent back up QBs have been taken in the 5th or later? I bet that number goes up huh Debbie!!!

Hahaha.  It is fair but you do not need to spend a fifth round pick to find a backup QB who most likely will be released in 2-3 years.

  6. Sorry to be a debbie downer but this is a wasted pick.  The odds of a 5th round QB to become a solid starter is extremely low (if not non-existent).

Who are the most recent pro bowl QBs who were drafted in 5th round or later in the last twenty years?  Tyrod Taylor (2012) and Derek Anderson (2007).  Both made pro bowl once and have never thrown more than 11000 yards in their careers.  Both were really backups.

I would have picked Micah McFadden or even Khalil Shakir.  At least they can contribute ST right away.

I just can't get past the fact that two teams turned their back on the guy.  Yet he supposed to come here and Scott Turner and Zamese are going to get this guy right? I just don't understand why anyone can defend that.

It is fair to say that eagles dumped him due to his poor performance and large contract.

However, what Colts have done is totally bizarre.  Colts started the year with 0-3 when Wentz had no preseason and injured.  When Wentz finally settled down, they had a run of 9-3 with two losses being OT and another loss to Brady/Bucs.  Then, Wentz got COVID and Colts lost last two games.  If you look objectively, Wentz had a pretty decent year and any reasonable GM/Coach would not have gotten rid of him.   Of course, when Isray hates you, you are gone no matter what.
