With Brown's speed and assuming he is playing behind McLauren, Dotson, & Samuels, and now having a QB who can get the ball downfield, he should be getting a lot of mismatches out there the majority of times he is lined up on the field.  I don't see many reasons he shouldn't excel this season if, and it's an if....he is an NFL caliber WR.

The thought of McLauren, Dotson, Samuels & Brown @ WR and Logan at TE  on a YOLO hail-Mary heave it has got to be the reason Wenz is smiling all the time.

NOTE: They only have 21 players on defense right now, by my count.  That includes the cutting of Bada who they can bring back and not count against the 53 assuming he clears waivers.

This is the defense as of now.  It's REALLY thin.  I have to believe they are going to bring in another player or two.

However, if the numbers hold, this is really helpful for the bottom of the roster TE's, WR's and RB's.  They could go 29 offense, 21 defense (+ Bada if he clears waivers) + 3 specialist.

I don't think I've ever seen that disparity before.  But if a lot of your ST guys are TEs, WRs and RBs, I guess it's fine.  I'm just used to them being a lot more safeties and LBs.

Is there a source for that?  I do remember them playing pretty good but there both strong safeties.  I think several things may have to be considered like our opponents and the pass rush we generated at that time.

    https://www.hogshaven.com/2021/4/15/22384867/could-jeremy-reaves-be-the-wfts-long-term-option-at-free-safety

" At the beginning of the 2020 season, Reaves was again waived and signed the practice squad. He was promoted to the 53 man roster when Collins went down and proceeded to play very well in the past several games for Washington. He ended up with 25 tackles, a sack, and 2 interceptions in the regular season and 10 tackles and a forced fumble against the Buccaneers in the playoffs.

At the end of the year, per PFF (and albeit in limited snaps), Reaves ended up the 5th highest graded safety in the NFL."

Jamin was terrible value at 19. Even if he is successful as a OLB, the value is still bad. 4-3 OLBs don’t get taken in the first round MLB.

Even if the intention was make him a MLB, MLBs that get taken in the first round are more proven products. Devin Lloyd got taken at #27 this year for reference and Lloyd is a much better prospect than Davis was coming out of Kentucky.

It’s a guarantee that they can just cut Reaves and put him on the PS. They’ve done that the last 3-4 years. Gives you an idea of what the rest of the league thinks of Reaves

When Reaves and Curl were starting at the end of 2020 they were one of the best if not The best S tandem in the league for 4 - 5 games.

I don't want to trade Payne, but if they say yes, do you think we can throw Heinkicke in anyway?

Once Howell is established, maybe, but lets say CW trips over waterbottle during kick-off and breaks his wrist in 42 places, do you really want Howell to be backed up by anyone but TH?

  6. Those wanting to cut or trade AG, what are you going to do the first time McKiss, or BRob cough up the rock or go down with a "knock on wood" boo-boo?

Kinda nice having a 1000+ yd playmaker on the team, and if he turns our spec teams into something special, well now that would be special.

He has a place in the offense as well. Line him and BRob in the back field and release him into the flat while BRob blocks or creates diversion.

To hand him the ball and ask him to pound between the tackles is a waste.

The only trade to be considered is AG and Payne for Roquan straight up.

    Yes sir.

We have weapons.  Ron Turner is finally going to be able to implement that deep ball.  Te's underneath, big fan of Bates.  Samuel, he's going to be just fine.  I want to dampen my expectations, as I have been burned before, however I certainly like that we are being picked last and everyone (Mike Rob) says Wentz stinks, that's perfect.  Under the radar, low key, with chips on the shoulders.

    Yes sir, I am ready.

    #takecommand

Dont forget BRob pounding and Gibson going in motion all over the place with the occasional MCKissIt TD! I bet even Patterson gets in on mop-up action in the late 3rd and 4th quarter of a bunch of games!

WR is going to be one of the more interesting positions to see who makes the team.

    I got 8 candidates:

McLaurin, Dotson, Samuel, Milne, Sims, Brown, Erickson, and Michel all with a shot to make the team.   Are we keeping six?

Michel is going to be on PracSquad.

My guess is that Brown, Sims, Milne, Erickson and Milne are competing for final 3 slots.

    No.

Unless you want Sweat and Payne to be definitive no go extensions. Roquan Smith's cost would have to replace at least one of them. And since Payne may already be a foregone conclusion that means Sweat. I'd replace Sweat for Smith... but the additional cost of a first rounder makes that hard to comprehend.

Would Chicago go for Payne and a 2nd round pick for Roquan?

Glad to see Dyami Brown back. Based on what I've read on this board and on Twitter from the beat reporters, mixed reviews but I think he could take a step this year.

"The Posse" is about to get  revived.... with an extra member!..

The potential of this WR group is even more exciting than the DL group.

Dad-gum I know better than to start making and drinking koolaid about this team, but the potential of Terry, Josh, Curtis and Dyami have me pretty stoked....

TO consider that we have Sims, Milne Erikson Harmon/Michel as depth and we are not considering starting them this year is pretty cool.

Somebody don't remind me that The Commanders are still the WFT?/Skins.... and let me slurp this kool-aid undisturbed!

I agree, the depth is “fine”. Not great, but fine. As long as it stays depth, but injuries happen and we need the Wentz trade to have been worth it.

Our WR personnel are probably the best in the history of the Skins/FTeam/Commadors.

Wentz is going to make the Probowl this year on the strength of it.

Yea that would work for the organization but it would be silly for the player. Their agents would never have them sign a deal coming off of their worst seasons lol. Everyone wants that pay day.

For what its worth, I don't think he gets 15 sacks regardless. Not without someone on the other end. He's not that good (yet, maybe)

I hope he proves us both wrong, and my suspicion is that he is poised to blow up this year.

  13. Just now, Llevron said:

If he gets 15 sacks we aren't letting him walk. We would sign him. I feel like this organization knows you have to 1) have a QB and 2) Get the other QB on the ground. We need him for #2 so if he gets 15 sacks and we have to open the bank for him, we will. At this point i find it much more likely he gets paid and Young never does.

But you know how these things are. All of it can change in a play...

Resign him right now. He has played, he has been available, he recovered from a broken jaw and other issues and is into camp ready to roll and looks to be our biggest rush threat to start game 1. Hopefully Young recovers and is a monster, but give Young his love now while it will be cheaper, and will drive more goodwill both to the player and to the fans.

    Good problem to have honestly

I would HATE watching Sweat turn into a perennial monster for some other team and have Young limp along with issue after issue on a monster contract all because he was a  higher draft pic. I am not a Young hater, I want him to be the 2nd coming of Bruce Smith, but I do love  M. Sweat and it feels like he runs in Young's shadow.

Young is playing in Sweats shadow at this point IMHO.

  15. Reaves and Curl  were a top in the NFL tandom the last few games last year.

Why in the world did Reaves get cut, and Curl get benched to start this season?

You would have though continuity of play would have dictated they keep their jobs.

RR is starting to run a club based on his inabilty, lack of desire, ummmm unwillingness to shake up the secondary.

There were multiple plays where 26 was jogging/loafing across the field even in some cases where he could have contributed to or made a play.

Another once-hopeful season dashed on the rocks of WFT ineptitude.
