Man if the Giants score 24 with Tommy freaking Devito that would be an embarrassment even if we still win by two scores.

Tommy Devito lives with his parents which means he doesn't have to do his own laundry or make his own meals, which in turn leaves him more time for football.

This is not a joke, this is literally what the announcers were saying last week during the Giants game when talking about the advantages of living with your parents.

Its what he did on Sunday in Seattle and is the reason why we lost. I cannot believe JDR is still employed by the Commanders. It's inexcusable that we have the worst defense in the league and that he's still here.

Yes. What is the reason for the lack of blitzing? I hate that we don't blitz more. I mean they're giving up huge plays anyways, might as well blitz to see if that helps. Drives me crazy.

Yep exactly. The previous ownership kept trying to force players on coaches or vice versa.

We need everyone on the same page from the getgo. If that means building around Howell I'm good with that. If that means starting over completely from scratch I'm good with that too.

There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that we drop Howell and start from scratch. It's not going to happen, full stop, period, end of conversation.

If you were starting a team right now would you take Sam Howell or Brock Purdy?

I think they are both winners but I would take Howell because of his improvisation and because he's built like a tank and will hopefully not get injured that much.

Purdy already got injured and really crapped the bed in the playoff game against Philly, which he also got injured in.

We could beat the Cowboys if we play them like we played Philly

After their annual Thanksgiving gimme, the Cowboys schedule is brutal.

    Seattle. Philly. @Buffalo. @Miami. Detroit. @Washington.

Would love to get a reeling Cowboys team for the last game of the season.

My dream is that we turn their dream into a nightmare.

If we had the same D as last year. I could see it. But I do love the optimism. :)

I like that we have a BYE before that last 4 game stretch. We will definitely not beat the Cowboys on Thanksgiving but we will beat the Giants for sure. If we could somehow beat Miami before the BYE (a huge IF), I think that would be a huge momentum swing for us to make the playoffs.

I think we smoke the Rams and win a tough one against Jets after the bye.

San Fran will be a chore but they can be beat and I think we split with Cowboys.

    1. Chicago (via Carolina - 1-8)

    2. New York Giants (2-8)

    3. New England (2-8)

    4. Arizona (2-8)

    5. Chicago (3-7)

    6. Green Bay (3-6)

    7. Los Angeles Rams (3-6)

    8. Tennessee (3-6)

    9. Denver (3-5)

    10. Atlanta (4-6)

    11. Washington (4-6)

    12. Tampa Bay (4-5)

    13. New York Jets (4-5)

    14. Los Angeles Chargers (4-5)

    15. Indianapolis (5-5)

    16. Las Vegas (5-5)

    17. Buffalo (5-4)

A Denver would would help, but not change the position for us. Arizona, Tenn, Atl, Jets, TB, Chargers are all trending up IMO

I definitely think we can get in the top 10

N.Y. Giants Toss up, they usually win

Dallas we can't stop their offense and they'll definitely get to Sam

Miami we aren't stopping their speed and their defense should get some turnovers

L.A. Rams We can win this one

N.Y. Jets gonna be tough to score on them and we only beat teams who have QBs that can't win. Toss up, but I'd bet we lose.

San Francisco We are losing this game

Dallas They'll be fighting for the top seed in the NFC

I'll guess optimistically and say we go 3-4 the rest of the way as our ceiling.

    I'm a bit more optimistic:

    Giants (Win) (5-6)

    Dallas (Loss) (5-7)

    Miami (Loss) (5-8)

    Rams (Win) (6-8)

    Jets (Win) (7-8)

    San Fran (Win) (8-8)

    Dallas (Win) (9 - 😎

We win last 4 to make playoffs as 7th seed, save Ron's butt and give Sam the opportunity to run the table Brady style, hopefully culminating us in getting the 32nd and 33rd picks.

The last part is a joke but I do believe we go 9-8 and make the playoffs.

I bet that last touchdown throw to Dyami was one of those Big Time Throw thingies I’ve heard such good things about on here lately. 5.2% chance of completing that pass.

Unbelievable throw. And the side armed throw to the running back on the run was amazing as well. It was like a laser beam, got there so freakin' quick.

The offense is also very up and down and has had some real bad moments. And EB's playcalling and scheming often leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of the offensive production today was really broken plays and/or Howell doing something brilliant.

EB inherited a jailbreak offensive line and poor tight end blocking, those are the only glaring struggles I've seen. Has he been perfect? No. Has he turned a 5th rounder into one of the top quarterbacks in the league? Yes.

I think building a dominant offensive line, getting better tight ends, a big #1 receiver to pair with Terry and Dotson, our offense will be unstoppable next year. I'm hoping that's what they'll do because I'm really excited what EB and Howell have done this season and want to continue to build on that.

EB has enough struggles with the offense as the OC. The last thing I want is for him to have the added responsibilities of the HC.

He's going to have a long, successful career as a head coach with the team lucky enough to get him. And I hope that team is us.

Look what he did first with Mahomes and now look what he's doing with Howell. Howell looks like Mahomes already his first season playing! Go look at their stats side by side right now. Other than the sacks, their stats are almost identical. This is no coincidence. It's because Bienemy knows how to coach up top talent and knows how to draw up plays.

Pair Bienemy with an equally bad ass DC and that's all she wrote. Washington will be a perennial playoff team.

I mean, you may be right about adding responsibilities right now but I absolutely do not want Bienemy fired. In my opinion, he's already done enough to be our next head coach.

  11. Just now, Silvernon said:

How do you figure giving Bienemy the entire team to manage is going to help the O perform better?

The O doesn't need to perform better, the D does. Will the O digress with Bienemy in control? Anything is possible but in my opinion, it will improve. Everything will improve.

Ron clearly can't manage anything. Let Bienemy be the Head Coach and Playcaller and let's see if he's got the goods. Because the dumbest thing we could do is fire Bienemy because he was anchored by clueless Ron.

Firing Ron also puts the D on notice and hopefully fires Del Rio up to get the D performing better.

  12. 2 minutes ago, Silvernon said:

    It could certainly be worse.

Right now Bienemy is trying to prove he can manage one side almost exclusively. The O has mostly exceeded my expectations, particularly with the sacks getting figured out. You want to see him grow through the season and keep his focus there.

And that is what makes the D so awful because you have Ron and JDR not figuring it out.

Bienemy is a winner,  a multiple Super Bowl winner, and is turning Howell into a superstar. Howell is a winner. I would rather see what Bienemy and Howell can do the rest of the season without Ron holding things up. We already have a terrible Defensive Coordinator, we don't need two terrible defensive coordinators. Let Ron go and let's go with Bienemy.

Outside from a Cinderella finish to this season, aka Playoff Wins (*2), Rivera and company are gone.

Bienemy gets an interview for HC, but they ultimately head in another direction. This season is about seeing if Bienemy can be a HC and probably doesn't do enough to convince them to hand over the keys.

They should fire Ron today and hand the keys to Bienemy this week. He couldn't do any worse and then we can see if Bienemy is the answer. The two blown timeouts was the final straw, it was only because of Howell's awesomeness that Ron was bailed out there.

Theres "cool" as a player but man howell takes it to a whole nother level. Looks completely aloof out there. Just absolutely zero emotion in any direction. Not a fan of it. Smile a bit. Be angry a bit. Look like youre having fun at least.

Maybe they should send him to Charm School in the offseason. Would that get you on the bandwagon?

I’m making a trade up for Maye. Do my homework on McCarthy. Otherwise I’n collecting as much 25 draft capital as possible to ensure being able to strike on a QB

We already have a QB. You should be collecting as much draft capital as possible to shore up linebacker, secondary and offensive line. Then let Curtis Samuel go, get an AJ Brown type to pair with McLaurin and Dotson (spend big on that one in free agency). I would also trade Sweat, keep Chase (he'll eventually be great), and add another stud defensive end. Then I would get another stud TE to pair with Thomas. I would also spend big on a LT if there is one out there.

He was miserable the last two weeks. Not sure what you were watching.

Yes, he was miserable against the Falcons with 3 TD's and no interceptions with a 119.7 QB rating in a WIN.

Total bum. CUT HIM, CUT HIM NOW!

Giants game wasn't his best but it wasn't miserable, he still gave us a chance to win. And he almost got us back into the miserable Chicago game if the field goal kicker hadn't missed an easy one.

I can't believe that some of you can't see that this kid is the future. A very bright future. Take your blinders off and enjoy the ride.

No but we can project ahead. He was solid today. Maybe his best game yet. But he threw essentially a game breaking INT at the worst possible time.

Sam right now is very hot and cold. For as good as he was today he’s been equally if not worse over the last month.

I personally would trade him at the end of the season. He’s going to be on his 3rd offense in 3 years next year. Even then he hasn’t shown to me that he has the capability to be elite. Think Derek Carr level.  Let some one else take that risk

Whew lad that’s quite the stretch

That you said today was MAYBE his best game makes me think you don't know much about football. It was clearly his best game and he's had other great games as well in his very young career. Other than one game, he's been HOT. Blazing Hot.

He has not been equally worse this past month, he's been great other than the Buffalo game. Even Brady, Aikman, Manning have had games like that (many games like that in fact) so give the kid just a tiny teensy little break. And on top of that, after the Buffalo game he bounced back and almost BY HIMSELF won us the Eagles game at the Eagles. Probably would have if the coach had gone for 2.

You should not be making any trade decisions. With you in charge, we would trade Sam for a Sam Sandwich, sign a vet for 40 Million per year, he'd snap his leg off first snap of the season, and then we'd have to go out and re-sign Taylor Heinicke. You know, the Dan Snyder team building method.

And why will he be on his third offense, we could win the next three games and be 6-5 heading into Dallas on Thanksgiving, finish the season strong and continue to build. We were never going to win the Super Bowl this year. I would keep most of the coaching staff and get a new, younger defensive coordinator. Or just make Bienemy the head coach, he's a good dude and would be a fantastic head coach. This way Sam stays in that offense, which is clearly working for him.

I'm not happy with the record, but I am happy with Sam Howell and the future of this young team. Just jump on board and stop being a Negative Nancy and don't call people Lad when your argument is clearly the wrong one.

We've seen Hurts play up and down and it's probably not fair to put that label on him, but he's had 3 different play callers in three years and his success rate has been completely different.

    System matters.

Herbert has what? 2 wins? Josh Allen is streaky. Burrow hasn't been great this year.

Reid has made Smith and McNabb all pros. Now he has a clearly more talented QB that fits his system.

The point is we've seen plenty out of Howell to know he can play in this league, if we get him the right coaches.

Not only can he play in this league, he's going to be superstar in this league. The kid has the IT factor big-time, everything should be done to protect him and help him thrive. That last throw to Crowder was top-level Mahomes type stuff. I love this kid!

I love what I see so far from Howell.

    Good attitude.

Seems like a good locker room guy, the team likes him.

Says the right things in the media.

    Has natural leadership qualities.

Can make all the throws, there doesnt seem to be too many areas he needs to improve on when it comes to throwing the rock.

By all accounts is coachable and wants to improve.

Doesnt appear to have an ego (but exudes confidence on the field)

Outside of holding the ball too long, and some other pocket presence issues, I see a guy with a higher ceiling than anything we have seen in Washington in a long time.

The other element that is massively in the teams favor is the contract situation.  The team wont need to pay him for at least another year.  Im no expert on NFL contracts, but it's my understanding that there is no 5th year option after the first round, right?  So technically Howell is under contract through the 2025 season.

I think the team can extend him any time they want, but can wait until the off-season prior to the final year to prevent him from hitting free agency (Someone correct me if I am wrong on that)

It definitely seems like the contact situation is such a huge advantage for Washington over the next few seasons.

    What am I missing here?

*Sorry if this has been mentioned already, it's a huge thread with many ebbs and flows lol.

You're not missing anything. The kid's a stud. QB search is over, this IS THE GUY.

Actually, he is the best QB we have had since RG3 and Kirk.

RG3 was an injury plagued one season wonder who got figured out by the end of his first season. Great season and super talented, but nowhere near Sam Howell in terms of upside. Kirk Cousins is an OK starter who can't win the big games (and never will) because he's so uptight and weird. I will give it to Kirk Cousins for being a top-notch business man and self-marketer. The man is a genius for generating so much money after accomplishing so little.

I believe Sam Howell is a 20 year starter who won't get injured that often due to his stocky body (Russel Wilson-esque) and has the IT factor to win Super Bowls if you give him a good O-Line. He demolished the Cowboys his first game, to me that's a good omen for his entire career.

  21. Sam Howell is the best QB this team has had since Mark Rypien. And he's only 23 and has much more upside and skill than Rypien. Surround him with the right team and coaches and I think he can win a couple of Super Bowls before his career is over and get us to the playoffs on a yearly basis. He is a total winner and he is the QB Washington has been waiting for.
