    Agree.

And to each their own of course for fans who feel differently.

I thought of all people Clinton Portis nailed it to some degree when asked about this teams struggles for eons.  He goes they never sucked in the right season where they have a high draft pick and can get a Qb in a year that's touted as a big year for QBs.

Now personally, I think the #1 reasons why this team has sucked and by a mile is Dan Snyder.

There are some who cover and follow this team who are obsessed with getting a high pick -- Paulsen, Rouhier, Sheehan, Galdi, Finlay.  And then there are some who feel yawn -- Brian Mitchell, Doc.   Keim is somewhat in the middle but he thinks there is more value to winning than losing but he hedged on that point in his latest podcast.

For those who yawn at it who cover the team the one thing they say that drives me nuts because what they say isn't true.  But in their defense they probably don't bother to look it up is the idea that picking really high is very familiar for this team, been there and done that like a million times.  I was listening to Keim's podcast last night and he references Chris Samuel.  And I was thinking dude that was forever ago.

Samuel was 24 years ago.  Then he referenced RG3 and heck they didn't have the #2 pick, they traded the world to move up to it.   Then it was Chase Young.  That's it.     We picked 5th twice and got Sean Tayor and Brandon Scheriff.

For as bad as the run has been here we don't pick top 5 often.   And its not like its been a disaster when we have.  Scheriff is the lone All Pro during Dan's era.  Sean (RIP) was a transcedent player.  RG3 gave us the best season under Dan.  Chase was Rookie of the Year then got hurt and has never been the same.   Chris Samuel was a long term pro bowler LT.  Lavarr from that same draft had some good seasons.

My point is for how bad this team has been in the last about 25 years or so we rarely partake in the top 5 dance.  And we have its been far from yawn.

For me?  Yes.  I'd have him behind Bowers though.

Yeah, it seems like Bowers is rated higher than every skill position player, except for Marvin Harrison Jr., according to most. I can't wait to see what we do. I have some confidence that we'll make the right choice more consistently with the new regime, but it feels critical that we get it right this year, specifically.

I like Coleman more to be honest. Big physical freak.

Nabers is another small-ish guy. Good player though but not with a top 10 pick.

3-4 catches a game that include huge 50+ yard TDs is definitely taking over a game. Look at how many games we've lost due to the sheer volume of explosive plays given up.

That's fair. I haven't seen either of them play much. My hope is an OL grades out as worthy of the pick but a big possession receiver to pair with Sam is enticing. I would think Bowers would be the pick (if available) in that scenario, though.

  4. I read a rumor the the Raiders may also be looking to add an Edge after releasing Chandler Jones earlier this year. No idea how reputable this site is.

    https://www.profootballrumors.com/2023/10/raiders-eyeing-edge-rush-addition#google_vignette

Having moved on from Chandler Jones, the Raiders are without a projected starter amongst their edge rush contingent. The team is eyeing a replacement for at least the remainder of the season.

Jones was inactive throughout the beginning of the campaign as his off-field situation spiraled quickly. After the four-time Pro Bowler was arrested, though, Vegas made the expected move of releasing him. The Raiders still have Maxx Crosby in place as their pass-rushing anchor, but a new veteran presence would be welcomed. The team is eyeing a trade acquisition in that regard, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports

Russini adds that Vegas has been active contacting teams for a potential addition, and that a player-for-player swap would be preferred. That comes as little surprise, as the 1-3 outfit would be well-suited to retain as much of its draft capital as possible. The Raiders might not be prepared to pay a signficant price in a rental move, Russini notes.

Crosby has posted a team-leading four sacks this year, but no other Raider has recorded more than one, and no other edge rusher has any. Collectively, Vegas’ total of seven ranks just 26th in the league, proving the need for reinforcements along the edge. Given the fact any move would likely involve a player on an expiring deal being acquired, a relatively small addition would likely be involved. A starting-caliber arrival would, on the other hand, allow first-round rookie Tyree Wilson to continue operating in a rotational role.

The No. 7 pick in April’s draft was originally ticketed for a part-time workload behind Crosby and Jones, but the latter’s departure altered those plans. Wilson has logged a 41% snap share through four games, and he has yet to register a sack or QB pressure. Providing a veteran insurance policy would be a welcomed move for his development, but it will be interesting to see how interested teams are with respect to moving on from a depth member of their own edge rush group.

The Raiders currently have just under $11MM in cap space, which puts them in better financial shape than most teams around the league. While their record would suggest a seller’s status, their interest in making at least one addition before the October 31 trade deadline will be an interesting story to follow.

  5. He's just a kid. He's 23 years old in his 3rd game back from a massive knee injury. You don't work on pass rush moves while rehabbing from an injury like that. He has all off-season to get better at that. He WAS working with Von Miller some this past off-season, and I have no doubt he will seek out more guidance this year. He still has so much time to grow, mentally and physically, and he apparently has the work ethic in spades. Its very premature, in my opinion, to be talking about him this way.
