They're not that bad.  Their OL has issues but this was a top 25 team.  Howell has been a big reason why they lost, he's been turning it over, holding the ball forever, spraying it, and reading the game wrong.  He's just not playing well right now.

I liked what I saw from him last year, but I think some limitations of his are becoming a lot more clear this season now that Michael Carter and Javonte Williams are gone.  Those dudes held that locker room together.  I think he's not that smart of a QB, and I doubt he's a dynamic leader.

But I also think Mac Brown probably has no clue how to get things fixed for him.

His ceiling is somewhere between Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins IMO.  He looks like Baker but he's definitely not as smart or good as Baker was.  It's an OK ceiling, but you better surround him with a dominant run game and defense to have any chance at success because he is a play action QB.

Being sacked and pressured 30 times hasn’t helped; I’m a NC homer so Corral then Howell

Some people choose strange hills to die on. There are/were reputable posters on this forum who still believe in Dewey Haskins too.

I knew he was a bust draft night between the attitude and “League done messed up”; then I watched him play a game and confirmed it

The offense looked bad.  The line had trouble making holes and they were giving up pressure, the QBs were inconsistent, and we're still not getting separation outside of Terry.  Hopefully Samuel gets back soon, because it looks to me that our WR/TE group is still subpar and our backs are still the only guys getting open and that feels like defenses are giving that away because they don't fear the backs in the open field.  I'm worried about RB too.  It doesn't feel like our depth can hold up to the 17 game season at all, and New England building a stable at both that position and TE suddenly looks very smart for a conservative, keep it between the numbers offense.  I should have known better than to drag Belichick for those TE moves this off-season.

Felt like the defense looked pretty good even without Sweat, but the linebackers were hit or miss.  The fact that Jamin Davis comes off the field and Bostic stays on in passing subs is disappointing.  He's further behind than we were led to believe from camp coaching staff rhetoric and coverage.  I think it's going to take him a while to get up to speed, but I'm hopeful that it happens this season.

I'm not as sold on William Jackson being as good as everyone seems to say he is either.  I think he's a nice player, but not sure he'll be the clear upgrade over Darby's play from last season that has been widely assumed.  St. Juste looks special to me though.  I think he could be pur best draft pick this season.

Our real problems are on offense though.  They just don't have a ton of talent and I can see why Fitz has so firmly taken control of the starting QB job.  If only he were eight years younger.  Heinecke looked like an off schedule QB without an off schedule arm or off schedule timing.  That's a bummer, I am really rooting for him.  Hoping he gets better each week.

I'm also annoyed that Mac Jones looked as good as he did.  Accuracy was still a bit dodgy to my eye, but his reads and decisions were excellent and his poise was excellent.  I panned him hard in the draft thread, but I'm probably going to have to cut my losses on him.  He just looked like a competent, starting caliber QB, not a deer in headlights at all.  Still doesn't mean I wish we had traded up to get him, but I'm starting to see what people liked about him so much.  Josh McDaniels is good.  That organization is so good.  He definitely has a chance to pan out.

Agree the poise factor is huge; Jones reminds me of Burrow in that aspect. As an aside Rodny Cajuste playing for NE as I remember you liking him

One of the hosts picked Dallas to win the division, but he was a Cowboy fan.  The neutral host picked us.  And then for the receivers we also have Dyami Brown who people like Chris Collinsworth said is the steal of the draft.  But, yes, he is an unknown at this point.

Brown I watched live ten times at UNC…he good

Helps your deep ball look good when you have Dyami Brown making adjustments to the throws.  But it's catchable for sure.

Howell looks like a lower middle class man's Baker Mayfield to me.  Wonder how he copes with losing so much skill talent?

Not many adjustments needed on deep ball but pocket presence and footwork need developing

Oh good. More Tom Brady comparisons.

As others have noted, there's a difference between a super athletic guy who can buy time with his legs and make off schedule plays when necessary and a running QB. Mahomes, Allen, Wilson are the former type. Lamar Jackson is a running QB. I don't see those two really being in the same category. And I don't think running QBs are going to become a huge thing again either. Everyone thought the same thing after 2012 with RG3 and Kaep, but that didn't go so well.

Not a comparison at all; maybe he’s found a home in DC

No thanks to more geriatric QBs

Everything that Rivera has said since the end of the season in relation to the roster starts and ends with QB. I will continue to be amazed if we don’t eventually pull off a move to significantly upgrade.

There is only two players in NFL history with 250+ pass yards and a rushing TD their first playoff game: Heinicke and Brady. Hope we give him a serious look

Dark horse quarterback who the Washington Football Team should acquire

The Washington Football Team played a competitive Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Taylor Heinicke as their quarterback. That fact alone should tell you that with merely competent quarterback play, Washington can be a dangerous team as early as 2021. But as history shows over and over again, finding a competent quarterback is no simple matter.

However, there is one out there, and acquiring him would not require mortgaging the future.

If he is healthy and up to speed by opening day, Kyle Allen should be Washington’s starting quarterback. If he is not, it should be Tyrod Taylor.

Why Tyrod Taylor could make sense for the Washington Football Team

Taylor is not a sexy pick. As I was going over all the free agents, trade candidates, and potential draftees who could be on Washington’s radar, his name was overshadowed by at least a dozen others. But the more I thought about the likelihood of acquiring any new QB, and the cost associated with doing so, the more it became apparent that Taylor is the ideal choice.

Allen should be the starter? Why is that? If it cam down to Heinicke and Allen it’s the former all day
